Chwalinska, ranked 114 at the start of the tournament into the final. She's made $870,000 in her career before this tournament, she'll get a minimum of $1.62m on Monday.
At one point, it looked like she really could have used any portion of those funds prior to then.

Chwalinska had had to go to her hotel and ask them to extend her stay being unable to afford it at that time. The Polish company Oshee, which also sponsors superstar Iga Świątek, stepped in to help cover her lodging.

Would love to see her win it all tomorrow.

A player whose career earnings are approximately $900k couldn't afford the hotel. Really???

She turned professional in 2019, so that's $870k over 7 years. Take off close to half of that for taxes, then take off the travel costs, general living costs, putting aside a bit to save etc. and you pretty quickly reach the point where it becomes a choice between paying a coach and paying for a hotel.
