Correct. The original has a grittiness that hasn't been replicated since. Plus, T2 seemed to be disappear up it's own backside with special effects. Sometimes, less is more. As for the later films in the franchise; well, let's not go there.

And what about The Thing, Evil Dead etc? You need to judge it on its own merits. T2 effects were amazing for 1991 and it’s a great film but it’s not better than Terminator overall

Opinions, I preferred pretty much everything about the 2nd, it was a proper wow film when I saw it. Probably in my top 10 of films that blew me away. The first was excellent though.

Agreed. The original Terminator is the better film. And it was released in 1984 (?). Crazy to compare the SFX with a film released 30-40 years later. It's like Close Encounters. The special effects are extremely basic (being kind there!), but it's a wonderful film, and I hope it never gets the reboot treatment.

I made the mistake of watching Terminator 2 before the first one. Like you I was blown away by the film watching it on the big screen & everyone talking about it.

I then watched the first one expecting much the same only to query why Arnie was killing everyone & eventually dawned on me that he was actually 'the bad guy'...doh
