I was at that game. Bloke next to me sang "your stadium lacks atmosphere" over and over and over again for about 50 minutes in a deadpan tone! We won 3-1 or 3-0.

Didn't he score twice in that Reading game, one direct from a free kick? England were playing a qualifier against Poland(?) the same day IIRC - no need to postpone our game for international call-ups!

Probably because Joe preferred Bish to Cooke after we scrambled out of the third tier.
 
Remember seeing terry cook at Radcliffe boro in a pre season friendly. It was the season after billing ham and all of a sudden his face didn't fit. Role subbed him at half time and looked gutted.

yeh,think scholes got a hat trick that day for england.could be wrong but im sure we listened to that game on the way home from reading!!!
 
I think Vaughan was working laying concrete, heard him on the radio saying that was his job now. Said people couldn't believe it if they recognised him.
 
I might be going mad but I've got this memory that Tony Vaughn got a bad press at City.

Granted, he started off a bit ropey and wasn't much cop when we were getting relegated. But once on the way back up, from the Div 2 season, I remember him turning in some steady performances.

I used to find it funny when people would phone up the radio and get cut off half way through their call when they started mentioning all sorts of rumours about Cooke.

Tony Vaughan lives in ellenbrook near worsley, He's a bit chunkier these days but thinks he's the bollocks with his collar turned up on his polo shirt, i see him in tesco walkden all the time with his wife and kid, he used to always shop in b & m bargains as well until it was demolished, his wife is fit he's done well, every time I see him I just think of how shit we used to be.
 
Back in 1999/2000 when we were looking for a new house we had an appointment to see a house just outside Northwich.

We were greeted by a very attractive and heavily pregnant woman who showed us around. I noticed a few pictures of city players so I said "Who's the blue? You or your partner?"

To which she replied "My husband Tony plays for City."

And sure enough on closer inspection all the pictures featured Tony Vaughan.

Apparently he wanted to stay at City but Joe Royle wanted him out.

Appreciate that doesn't help you track him down but he remains the only City player whose house I have been in.

I used to see Tony Vaughan regularly when he worked at Lincoln Audi but he left at least 2 years ago. Cracking bloke and always happy to spin dits about his time at City including one about how Andy Morrison had dumped him on Saddleworth Moor without a phone after a bust up in training! I don't think he was ever really that suited to selling cars!

Kinda. Yes and no will be the best answer there, to keep it ambiguous ;)
 
Clark signed Vaughan as a left back although he was definitely better at centre half. He struggled the season in the championship because he was fourth choice behind jobson, weikens and Morrison. Royle realised he was shite at left back so shifted edghill over there and put crooks at right back which tells you everything you need to know about tony Vaughan's footballing abilities. A mate of mine bought Cooke's house in Gatley and he left a trail of debt behind him well in to 6 figures!!
 
My main mempry of Vaughan apart from him not being the greatest player was when the players came to the supporters after the Gillingham match he was laughing and pointing to someone in the crowd and making "let's chug a few beers" motions with his hand. It's on the video.
 
Why write a book about two below average players? I would get it if they were cult city heroes but I don't think any city fans have fond memories of these two jokers.

I said I was writing a book and I was trying to track the above two players down. There's a lot more to it than a book about two ex-players. ;)
 
Tony Vaughan used to come in our shop regular when he played for Forest,he was ok just used to make out he was big time and could get you what you wanted,mainly tickets.Didn't deliver,think he running a building company after he left them.Friendly enough.
Paul Hart also used to come in,pissed as fart whilst driving his Land Rover.

International Representative - Terry Cooke
Born in Birmingham England, Terry started his professional soccer career at the age of 15 for Manchester United F.C. Terry was 19 years old when he made is professional debut with Manchester United against Bolton Wanderers back in 1995 at Old Trafford. He would make his mark on his debut, assisting a goal for Ryan Giggs and claiming the man of the match award in a 3-0 victory against Bolton Wanderers. After 7 years at Manchester United, Terry then moved to the blue side of town, signing for Manchester City F.C for a transfer fee of £1.2m. He would be the third player in over 100 years, to ever move directly between the two Manchester teams. Terry helped Manchester City secure back to back promotions which helped them get back into the Premiership. He would then have spells at Grimsby Town F.C and Sheffield Wednesday F.C.

In 2005 Terry would make the decision to cross the pond where he would eventually join up with the Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer. With his willingness to help and make others better around him, he would soon establish himself as a fan favorite and also one of the best assist players in the league. Terry made over 100 appearances for Colorado Rapids before moving to Australia to play for North Queensland Fury of the Hyundai A-League.

Having played on 3 continents at the highest level, Terry's playing career spanned almost twenty years. He brings a mass of experience to First Wave Sports.
