Test your broadband speed

Thought I'd do another one of these as I'm on my travels again.
This is Zurich Airport Swiss Business Lounge.
I'll do Manchester Airport lounge on Thursday.

Not reading through 10 pages to see if this has been posted but here is another good one <a class="postlink" href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/diagnostics" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/diagnostics</a>

This may help speed things up. BUT NOT VIRGIN MEDIA SUBSCRIBERS

A.You should have filters plugged into telephone extensions that have equipment plugged in, sky boxes etc

B. Two wires make up a phone line from the exchange to your Master socket , you then have three wires to your extensions. The third one being a bell wire and this can cause havoc with broadband.

The new type of master socket sorts this problem out ( it has OPENREACH on it)

C. If it isn't a new one you can disconnect the bell wire by unscrewing the socket so the bottom half of the front plate comes off. The bell wire is number 3 usually orange/white.

This would stop a phone from ringing on an extension, BUT filters should make the phone ring as long as you have broadband and the filter plugged into said extension.

D. Too find the master socket have a look where the cable from the telegraph pole enters the house. And if you don't have a master socket ( about an inch bigger than extension sockets ) don't fuck about with it.

I hope this makes sense. If not don't be pulling wires out willy nilly
