I usually tested my broadband speed using the http://www.ip-details.com/.
It's useful for me.

Ring them up, they turned mine down to 2 mb and didn't tell me. The cheeky bastards then tried to say it was because I'd been downloading too much. I proved I'd only downloaded 2gb in 24 hours and they backed down and turned it back up.
