Anyone who knows anything about Thai politics knows this is all stage managed. He has done a deal with the royal family to come back, give himself up, spend a day or two in the luxury police hospital and then get a pardon. Not like he is locked up in the Bangkok Hilton, unless the King reneges, which would be funny as fuck, btw.

This is 100% spot on. Thailand has potential but will be a basket case as long as the inbred royal family is in charge.
That screwball #10 has yet to name a successor. If he croaks soon ( let’s hope he does), things will be even more chaotic than they have been the past 20 years.
Thailand will continue to suffer a huge brain drain. Potential young leaders/entrepreneurs will leave in droves given half a chance because under this regime there is no future.
The guy denied the PMs office would have been a positive influence. However, the establishment/swamp are scared shitless of any type of change that challenges its place in society even one iota.
Have two homes in Thailand and can see myself spending more time there in the future but would never spend a huge amount of time there.
It’s sad…..

Is in the prison hospital and will no doubt shortly receive either a royal pardon or will be released on medical grounds. There is no way he would have returned without some guarantees in place.

I stopped going as a result of that propaganda - happy birthday to the king. It was 8 weeks off his birthday and he wasn't there to see the scoreboard.

A revolutionary?
A more balanced view would be that Thai politics changes 180 degrees whenever it has to. Yes, the royal family is corrupted, the army is corrupt and all the politicians are corrupt, but that isn't the issue that affects most of the population. That is the endemic corruption in every day life. If you have two houses here, you will have experienced it. Pay people to get things done. Pay the police to get off even the worst crimes. Pay the police to frame someone. To make them disappear. No money? Go to jail for the smallest thing. Getting rid of the royal family without changing the rest won't achieve anything. Luckily, there are signs that change is coming from the younger generation when these have been largely ambivalent for many generations. The time of Thaksin, the army and a royal family in its present guise will be over in the next ten years. Have to wait and see if that makes things better for the ordinary folk.
