Thank You Ilkay - Part 2

I thought he was really coming into form at rhe end of last season. Seems a shame for him to have left without much fanfare. He's been a fantastic player for us and he is a top guy too. Hope he returns to the club in some capacity in the future.
Should have kept him for another season, captain, huge experience, playing well at the end of the season, Ake should have gone for me.

Thank you for everything Ilkay and for, quite simply, making every City fan's dreams come true. We know that Pep put you in charge of the tempo and tactics on the pitch - you implemented his plans to perfection - slow the game down, speed it up, then arrive late in the box and BANG!! another crucial Ilkay goal.

Is it ok to feel a bit emotional with Ederson and Ilkay leaving at the same time. Both huge players for us over the years absolute legends. Feels like we're starting from scratch again and whilst it's exciting there's a huge sadness there as well
Yep, totally agree. You watch these guys giving everything each week and when you're as old as me they feel like your kids - kids that are moving abroad. Very sad.

Thanks Ilkay and all the best, fantastic footballer and a snip at 20 million !! Those particularly special goals against Villa in 2022 and in the 2023 Cup Final makes you yet another City legend. Thanks again

Of all the legends we've had to say goodbye to over the last 15 years, I reckon Gundo is the one most likely to return as our coach one day. Gundo implemented Pep's plans to perfection - even when some of our fans that don't understand Pep's tactics were shouting 'FORWARD!! FORWARD!!'

Two of my favourite blues.

Gonna miss Ederson's craziness and Ilkay's pure class.

Both absolute class until the end.

Very sorry to see him go. He posted 3,359 minutes in 54 games last season, compared with 3,856 in 22-23 across 51 games. That’s still a considerable amount of football for someone who was supposed to be helping off the bench. We’ve retained less dependable and capable players but he’s fallen victim to the purge.
Purge?

He doesn’t appear to think he was forced out:

Wouldn't deny him such a move ever, he's earned it in the hearts of every blue. Maybe because he's left once already it doesn't feel quite so bad, but is still part of this general uneasiness that we're letting the tried and tested old guard go in favour of change, and so far the outlook isn't brilliant. No send off, as with Eddie, is tough though, I hope the club brings them back so the crowd can really show them our appreciation.

Cheers again Ilkay, hope they treat you well in Turkey and see you in January. I may even tune in to watch the Galatasaray Vs Fenerbache game, see whether Eddie or Ilkay comes out on top.

Good Luck to Gundo, he was thrown in the deep end last season and he tried to pull us through the difficult period.

Such a big window of change, huge amount of experience has gone and no doubt will be an effect on the changing room.

Gundogan, Grealish, Ederson, KDB,
& Akanji with walker in Jan aswell All key figures of the Treble squad, next season we will likly see the end of stones, ake, bernado and I reckon Rodri will want leave aswell.

Yep. There are some marked examples of bad forward planning at the club. Gundo should have never been allowed to leave in the first place. Should have just offered him the contract barca were offering at the time. For our treble winning captain to leave the season after we won it was a big blow and I'm not saying that was the only factor but everything seems to have been slowly going downhill from there. That summer was a disaster for the club, the quality dropped and we've been in panic mode ever since.

The saddest thing is we've lost a fair few without a proper send off. Gundo is class personified and I wish him all the best. We shouldn't have looked to bring him back, but the evidence from his season at Barca and in the Euro's suggested he could still do a job. Maybe he did to be honest, everything else was falling apart and we don't know how bad it could have been without players like him.

He's moved somewhere special to him and the scene of one of our greatest moments so he'll be happy and I would expect we might see him back one day in some capacity.

What a player, I'd never heard of him then Pep signed Ilkay when he was injured and many laughed but not for long, all the best fella, what a player.

Such a shame to send him off like this on deadline day without a cameo at the etihad to say goodbye and proper send off.

Legend.
