Thank You Ilkay - Part 2

Such a shame to send him off like this on deadline day without a cameo at the etihad to say goodbye and proper send off.

Legend.
We didn’t send him off. He had to go within the transfer window - his choice - and we let him go for free.

He’ll be back I suspect - as a coach. (As well as in the CL match when I hope he’s out with a slight knock!!) :-)

Very sorry to see him go. He posted 3,359 minutes in 54 games last season, compared with 3,856 in 22-23 across 51 games. That’s still a considerable amount of football for someone who was supposed to be helping off the bench. We’ve retained less dependable and capable players but he’s fallen victim to the purge.
Purge???? We have to evolve each year. He had a great offer from his boyhood team & we let him go for nothing.

Think we did him proud

Pretty sure if Guardiola had been asked in May which players he’d like to retain for the season coming, Gundogan would have been near the top of the list. I agree that we need to evolve but I would have preferred to keep him this year.
I also think his boyhood team was Schalke.

Can never thank this lad enough. My highlight was 12 secs into rags cup final. He basically smashed the bastards cocks and balls up their own fruit shoots. I had waited my close to 60 years to dick them in a Wembley Cup Final. Silencing the Villa wankers at Etihad was mint too.

Good luck Ilkay, you're going to your boyhood club and living your dream.
Thanks for some great memories of which there are many, my everlasting memory of you is lifting the champions league trophy in Istanbul, which helped fulfil one of my dreams.
See you in January.

Think he supported both clubs but his heritage meant he had a strong affiliation with the Turkish club.

He’s had pelters on here (because he was “past it”) - as has Pep for keeping the “older” players for too long

This seems a good - probably final - step in his playing career.

I’ve no doubt it’s a good move for him, but whether it’s a good move for us will depend on other senior players remaining fit and newcomers stepping up to the plate. Time will tell.

Guess that’s the same for every player!

I always believe in the mantra of never go back. He left as the captain of the Treble winning team. I wish that night in the Aturturk had been his last with City.

All the best Gundog.

Was at the Villa game when he came on and changed it, we've had some amazing days with him. Great man, great player and perfect teammate by the sounds of it. Would have been fine coming back had we not been in a season from hell, unfortunately last season has caused too many problems so everything had to be ripped up.

I think the first time we sold Gundogan was a mistake, and when we signed him back again, it was a mistake and 2 seasons wasted moving around when really City should have offered him a 2 year deal in the first place
