Thank You Ilkay - Part 2

Pep's first signing if I remember correctly, and a wonderful player and servant for the club.

An important player in all of our achievements over several years, and one who will be acknowledged and remembered fondly by the club and supporters alike.

I hope he has a happy and successful time in Turkey and maybe comes back to the club in the future, in some capacity or another.

Good luck Mr Whippy

Club legend, without any shadow of doubt. Was unfortunately asked to do far more last season than I'm sure he or anyone else expected when he first came back, but he gave his all every single time and deserves nothing but respect. Fans will never forget all he did for us and I 100% expect to see him in management someday where he can continue putting his intelligence and acumen to use.

Pep's first signing.
It was time for Mr Whippy to leave the building, I didn't want to see him have a "one too many" season this year.
He will never be forgotten for some fantastic years and performances. Treble winning captain 2023. Fastest Cup Final goal.
Expect to see him end of January against Gala in the ECL for one more farewell wave.
Hope he will be back in a couple of years in a coaching role in the future.
Ok he's old but surely better than 6th choice.

All the best kept our title run going with his performance against Villa , never complained even when he was jettisoned back into the fray for a destined to be failed second coming which all too often the case.

His comeback from severe injury to play a pivotal role in our lasting success at home and abroad while engineering the German National Team is a credit to him and his desire to be the best he could be as he was on most occasions.

Time waits for no ting out the old ring in the new but he goes with best wishes and right now we could do with a younger version of Gundy but hopefully the next one is not far away.

Unfortunately we brought Gundogan back when we are going through a phase of transition, losing leadership in the squad and also players that don't have the legs to cover ground anymore.

I think Gundogan would have worked if he had of had the likes of Rodri beside him or midfielders with legs at least, Yet it's something we had to ask Gundogan to do and that's never going to work.

He will also be a legend at the club. Unbelievable footballer with a serious footballing brain. Class act.

I got sick of the sight of him when he came to the Etihad with Dortmund in the CL and they battered us 1-1 and when Pep signed him even though he was seriously injured (playing basketball???!!!) I wondered if he would ever be the Dortmund Ilkay again. But no worries! What a superb player and a great member of some glittering teams and captain at the most glittering of all. Thanks silky Ilkay for every great moment and all the great football (and more than a few great goals). Don't be away too long.

Another legend departs!

What a player Gundo has been for us - won the lot during the Pep era, and captained us through our greatest ever season, playing a pivotal role at every stage.

Time waits for no-one, and he deserves to see his career out in a country and at a Club that’s clearly very close to his heart.

I’m hoping this is more a case of us saying farewell, not goodbye - and his connection to City still has a few more chapters yet to be written.

An absolute legend as far as I am concerned and for the price we paid relative to others what a servant he's been. Strange decision for me when we consider the Silva situation, although he is a few tears older. Gundo contributed right to the very end ensuring our CL spot with a goal and an assist at Fulham. Thanks for everything maestro !

Those two goals against Villa stopped Liverpool from winning the domestic treble and perhaps the quadruple. They paved the way to the Treble and 4 in a row. In terms of clutch goals Gundo is up there with Yaya, Aguero and Rodri. Legend.

2017/18 scored in 3-1 win at Spurs - we were crowned Champions following day
2018/19 scored in 4-1 win at Brighton - crowned champions
2020/21 won back to back player of month awards as we won 15 PL games on bounce including win at Anfield Gundo scoring twice - crowned champions
2021/22 scoring twice on final day win over Villa - crowned champions
2022/23 scored twice and assisted in 3-0 win at Goodison - next time we played we were already Champions
2022/23 scorer of both City goals in All Manchester FA Cup Final

A shame it didn't work out the 2nd time, looked a really savvy signing at the time and to be fair he wasn't supposed to play as much as he did but the injuries meant he had too, could have been much worse.

A club legend and he's going to a club where he's going to be idolised.

I guess he'll be back at the Etihad with Galatasaray in January, probably stick one in the top corner too.

Good luck Ilkay.
Anybody else press the play button?

No? just me then.

Just a shame what happened last season left him with no other choice but to play more than anticipated.

But he will always be a legend in our eyes.
