Thank you Stefan Ortega

For that one save against Spurs he’ll always have my love. I think he’s undoubtedly been the best backup keeper we’ve had post takeover tbh. There were times early on I was convinced he could legitimately push to be our number 1.

In hindsight he’s proved not quite good enough for that and I think his time is done with us now. That being said and taking into account the role he was bought to play for us he’s been absolutely brilliant and if he moves on, which is looking more and more likely I wish him all the best. Proper professional too. Will be a solid keeper for whoever comes in for him

Joe Hart and Casper Schmeichel battled it out for a while.
Schmeichel had that run right at the start of 2007/08 as the other 'keepers were injured and Hart wasn't fully fit.

Once Isaksson was fit Schmeichel lost his place on the bench for the rest of the season.

They did both play a half each at Bradford in 2006, but KS would have been 4th choice that season and loaned out, with Weaver and AI playing most of the games.

This thread has jumped the gun. Maybe wait until he goes?

If Ortega has a thread saying thanks and goodbye at this point, then there are about another six players who also could have one!
For his own reasons, he needs to go and get a number one spot, he'll never get it at City. I'm not sure where he'll be good enough to be number one, I don't think PL standard personally.

I think he could be a number one keeper for any premier league team outside the top eight. When we see those teams it is normall for them to be playing a low block so the keepers role is simplified compared to the high line and passing out from the back that is required at City. Pu him behind a compact team with a settled back four and I think he would look awesome.

Cult legend status for that save at Spurs!

I, like Pep, was on the floor when Son went through after Akanji’s mistake. I thought the title was gone… but Stefan stepped up massively!

And, on top of that, the Sky's advertising the following season... to see that image at a bus stop brought me a smile every time I saw it.
