That Last Post vs Southampton

He was bang on wasn’t he?

Something that always annoys me with all this is though is the crowds and their clapping. It’s not a talent contest, we aren’t supposed to applaud it.

When the managers bring out the wreaths to after the end of The Last Post, it’s supposed to remain a silence throughout.
Agree, but the worst thing was hearing people chatting through it, mostly on the concourse but they should be told by tv or tannoy to be quiet or get to there seat in the ground, in plenty of time.

No chatter or noise near me in the ground.

My Gran lost her three brothers in WW1 always brings a lump to my throat. The last post.

If I am not mistaken the guy played the Last Post on a trumpet and not the traditional bugle. The trumpet gives a more accurate sound on the notes whereas a bugle had no keys and it is all lip work.
You don't use the valves on a trumpet either. Last post is all open notes. Bugles are just a bit shite and crudely made generally. That noise at anfield was fucking dreadful and I assume was a bugle. Having said that, a good player can still make it sound ok.

Stories that deserve to be remembered and passed down.

I had an uncle who served in the 1914-18 War, he told a story of falling into a shell hole in no man's land along with a German and saying to him "I won't hurt you if you won't hurt me" and both making it back to their own lines. Smart lads.
He survived the war then worked 30 years in the coal mines, died of black lung disease & smoking. For all I could complain about it's memories like these that make me understand how fortunate I've been by comparison, thanks anyway to the NHS and a good grammar school.
God bless your Uncle and that man. There must have been hundreds if not thousands of men who did not want to go to war but were either made to or did what was deemed to be doing the right thing.

Has anyone got a clip of it?

Incredible performance from the young lad yesterday. In 20 years of attending Armistice Day games, I've never heard a Last Post performed so impeccably.

Note perfect throughout.

It got me properly emotional. To stand up in front of 55,000 and perform like that took serious guts. Fantastic stuff - his family should be proud.
Me and my lad said the same thing, never heard a "note perfect" one, it's very hard to play.

Absolutely outstanding performance on a beautiful day.
After he finished he walked back past the East stand towards the family stand, I noticed that many people stood up to applaud him.
