The ‘Proper’ Treble

Just call it the Champions Treble and when they claim to have won one, that’s when the fun starts.

Or the treble treble which they haven’t done either , the only club , and probably will be for a long long time to do 3 PL’s on the bounce finishing it off with the big treble.

You could argue that the competition, back then, was much more of a level playing field, if not heavily weighted towards Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus who had unlimited spending power, and bought all the best players in the world.

United didn't have a monopoly on winning the PL. Infact, weren't even champions of England in the treble season. And Bayern Munich were the favourites going into that game.

Also, it was a feat that was accomplished with 7 academy players. 6 of them from Greater Manchester.

This makes the 99 treble a fairly unique occurrence, that probably will never be matched.

Read into these stats what you will, but its fair to say City's treble is far superior in nearly every way compared to United’s.

Plus the domestic trophies, we won them despite officials as we saw in the FA Cup Final and dozens of PL games. They won their title because of officials.
Also we had far tougher opposition where they were the only ones spending big back then

The main one for me is going into this season as reigning champions, retaining that and also winning the CL. That is what makes ours better than their wanky one.

Also, our players are good parents as far as I am aware, and will be when they become parents. They had Dwight Yorke, so there’s that too.
