The 10 best City players of all time

Not much arguing with your selection Ric. Although as a previous reply said, I cant comment on players I havn,t seen.
I can go back to Bert, Joey Hayes, Sammy Sambrook etc
Players that lit up my life include Wagstaff ,Johnny Crossan, I remember my Mam buying me a Shirt for Christmas with Matt Grays number on it. Trouble was it was an Everton Shirt (its blue isnt it ? )Cried all christmas , i was 35 at the time.
Ali B, Kinky. We have had some great ones , but Colin Bell stands out above all of them.
Loved TC. Not much help with your list I know, but it brought back memories.
I think this should only be answered by fans like your goodself, A Blue, who has seen the likes of Bert play.Like you say it's hard to comment on players that you haven't seen. From what you hear off the older fans I don't think many would argue with that list from Ric though.I cringe with embarrassment when Paul Dickov gets mentioned in these sort of lists.

IMO, these lists should only reflect on players that you as an individual watched week in, week out as you were growing up through to the modern era. I love watching the old highlights of Swift, Trautman, Bell, Lee, Young, Summerbee, etc, but was not lucky enough to ever see them play. So whilst fully appreciating they are a huge part of the proud history of our club, my XI would include some (maybe obscure) boyhood heroes, some of which wouldn't come close to being the most naturally gifted of Citys past and present players.

1. Tony Coton
2. Clive Wilson
3. Paul Power
4. Paul Lake
5. David Philips
6. Paul Simpson
7. Mark Lillis
8. Kinkladze
9. Ali
10. The Goat
11. David White

Am hoping I can swap all XI for the Premiership winning team of 2009/10!!!

1-frank swift. 2-colin bell.3- kazi deyna. 4 -mike doyle. 5-steve mckenzie. 6-trevor francis. 7-anelka .8-swp. 9-billy meredith. 10- joe corrigan. its very difficult to pick just 10.

I started watching City in 1976 so I just missed out on the Lee,Bell & Summerbee era.
So my top 10 from my years of watching City would be:

Joe corrigan
Mike doyle
Dave watson
Clive wilson
Paul power
Geo Kinkladze
Kazi Deyna
Ali Bernabia
Uwe Rolser
Dennis Tueart

Been a while since I originally did this for The Times, but most of the arguments centred on players further down the list and their relative placing. Be interesting, as we enter a new era for City, who people place as their ten greatest players to adorn the sacred blue shirt.

For those who can be arsed reading the full article, it's here:

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premier_league/manchester_city/article5795355.ece" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/ ... 795355.ece</a>

For the record, mine were:

10. Neil Young
9. Tommy Johnson
8. Eric Brook
7. Francis Lee
6. Alan Oakes
5. Billy Meredith
4. Frank Swift
3. Peter Doherty
2. Bert Trautman
1. Colin Bell

Think that's a great list. Would probably put Robbie and Joe Corringan somewhere, difficult to see who to take out though. So I'll have to say Frank and Bert seeing I've got Joe. For no other reason that keeping the numbers right.

Of those I've seen:

1 Bell
2 Lee
3 Doyle
4 Tueart
5 Hartford
6 Corrigan
7 Francis
8 Summerbee
9 Kinkladze
10 Channon

I've been going to see City since 71 here's mine

Colin Bell
Dennis Tueart
Francis Lee
Georgi Kinkladze
Joe Corrigan
Ali Bernabia
Paul Lake
Rodney Marsh
Trevor Francis
Tommy Hutchison

This is a hard list to compile, as previous posters have said is it a best all time City team based on folklore and what your dad told you or players that have made an impact on your life & times as a City supporter. My list is based on my time as a City supporter and the impact the players had since my first match in 1972.

Joe Corrigan - Legend between the sticks despite getting shit off City fans early in his career (My dad used to call him the Chip Butty Kid cos he was a bit of a porker)

Dave Watson - Giant of a man and an awesome centre half

Andy Morrison - a leader of men who changed the attitude of the whole club in our darkest hour

Colin Bell - a complete footballer

Georgie Kinkladze - for me the first import that made a real impression on the premier league and made me believe in better

Ali Bernabia - what a player, will always be my favourite even though he was only here a short time he was pure quality

Dennis Tueart - he had those little white tags in his socks and I thought they were so cool (aged 9/10) - and he could play a bit too

Shaun Goater - 100+ Goals - how hard he worked for the cause can never be forgotten.

Peter Barnes - Best wide man for City and my hero aged 10 (met him 6 months back and was still in awe of him and I am 42 now!)

SWP - His first spell at City was devestating

Bloody hell I love this club so much!
