For some reason, despite having a season ticket in 2000/01, I can only remember 2 things about it. A Beckham freekick at the north stand end and we lost the derby 1-0, and a Wanchope hatrick against Sunderland on his home debut. I had Wanchope written on the back of my shirt the day before and I remember people patting me on the back at the end of that game as if I was him.

These 2 moments aside, I can remember fuck all else about this season. Was it Royle or Keegan? I presume Royle. We got fucking relegated - I can remember the 96 relegation better than this. Was it close or were we down with lots of games to go? I also presume the rags spanked us at OT and won the league that year?

Anyone else suffering from amnesia about this season?

Getting relegated at Ipswich and them holding up a 'You are the weakest link, goodbye' banner.

Karma

Was Karma as we smashed em out FA cup year after, great night that was, we had great win at Elland Road, Smashed 4-0 away at Charlton start of season, Haaland injury, Season to forget.

Beat Ipswich then got beat by Newcastle in the 5th round if I remember correctly despite bossing the game. Was it the year of the Haaland-Keane horror?

And I remember that Charlton game now you mention it, Weaver in his cap as it was a sunny day. Talk about typical City...

That was great. I love giving teams 'pay back'. The Berkovic goal from the corner was mint. That next season was pretty much all great!

We got a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford 2001, Howey scored the equaliser. That was bout all I enjoyed from that season!

Ipswich/Newcastle was year after when KK took over, Haaland Keane was just before we got relegated.

As for the 2000/01 season, it's the first season I have any recollection of watching any City games. Didn't Steve Howey score for us in a 1-1 draw at The Swamp? Also remember we won 5-0 at home to Everton.

It was Royle. Remember George Weah coming and Royle being gutted because Gudjohnson went to Chelsea from Bolton and not us in the summer. That might have made a difference to the season. Alfie handed over a load of tenners to City fans at a services station as an apology for the sh*t performance. He only did it the once though as it would have got expensive. All ended in acrimony with Royle getting the bullet at the end and taking us to a tribunal and losing I think.

Wasn't it also the season that contained Danny Tiatto scoring a goal after picking up the ball in his own half and running through to score only for it to be disallowed for offside?

Yes it was up at the Riverside. Other low lights from a horrible season included poor performances by Nicky Weaver (as by this point his social activities were starting to drastically influence his game), the horrible bakerlight effect away kit, dreadful football, Joe Royle's almost endless pursuit of Ugo Ehiogu, and I seem to remember an absolute freak of an own goal in the game at Maine Road against Charlton??
