Nico Gonzalez makes it actually harder for it. Instead of him the club could go for Wharton now and MGW for the homegrown aspect while also trying maybe for Livramento.
Since Wharton would be illogical now the club has to keep stones and Ake for another year . Unless Robinson is an option instead of Kerkez or whatever average fullback who can play 5 positions we have In mind

The homegrown rules,as all squad rules are maximums ,no minimum don't need to have any. Wouldn't recomend it though.

Because Pep is playing safe to get top 5 he'll build next years team starting in the CWC , Gonzalez will be part of that.

Looking at this based on the players we're linked with (obviously very optimistic list in terms of the midfield signings) it's pretty obvious that it can only work if we sell one or both of Stones/Ake and all of the uncs in midfield. Even then we'd still need to buy 1 more HG player in addition to MGW, 2 if we sell both HG centre backs.

I'm surprised we've only seen links to Livramento in that case because we really need more HG for the quota. Replacing Ortega with a HG backup seems like a no brainer.

We wouldn't need to buy another but obviously it would reduce our squad size if we don't. We could of course keep one of the HG players that you have omitted.

I can't see us getting rid of Bernardo, Gundogan and Kovacic this window though (even though we may wish to). It might be tough finding a buyer for one of Stones or Ake too. We'd also have to find interested parties (loan or sale) for Grealish, Walker, Philipps, McAtee and Echeverri.

Getting players out might be equally as difficult this window as bring new players in.

True, but in previous years when we've had 4 homegrown, Foden has been the only club trained or U21 that really plays. If we start seeing more game time for Bobb, O'Reilly,Foden,etc. then we could go with less homegrown and actually the playing squad would still be bigger.Not suggesting we will or should though.

Is that referring to the CL squad only? I think Bobb will be over 21 next season.

I thought for the PL the club trained didn't matter and it was a max of 17 foreign, 8 HG and as many under 21s as you wish. I might be mistaken though.

Wirtz is more of a midfielder than Foden is
