had similar advice off a physio when I had a knee problem, but 20kg barbell?? Are you sure?OK I'm not saying this would work for everybody.
A few years ago my left hip got painful when I walked for 30 minutes or even just stood still. I went to the Doc. He sent me round the corner for an x-ray. It showed a bit of wear but nothing serious. Doc suggested fish oil tablets.
Went to see a different Doc he suggested building up the muscle around my hip joint but doing half squats and leaning against a wall with my knees bent for 10 minutes. Plus 10,000 steps a day. The idea is that the muscles get stronger around the hips and supports them.
After about 3 weeks, no more hip pain, none since.
Recently I tore my rotator cuff in my right shoulder/upper arm, bowling a cricket ball on a cruise ship.... I suddenly had limited movement with my right arm or sharp pain would ensue. X ray confirmed the slight tear. Doc suggested surgery to fix the tear.
Same thing/course of action, I bought a 20kg barbell and did arm bends with it for about 15 minutes a day.
Whilst the tear is still there the pain has gone as the surrounding muscles are built up.
Most Doc's wont advise this stuff but it's worked for me. It may work for you, try it. Google what exercises to use for certain muscle groups. It's probably saved me a lot of grief and exercise is good for you.
Currently have an elbow problem, damaged ligaments/tennis elbow sort of thing, I'm using 3kg dumb bells and I couldn't do them for 15 minutes.
The advice I was given was lighter weights, build up the reps
