The Album Review Club - Week #145 - (page 1923) - Tellin' Stories - The Charlatans

Went to see Empire State Bastard's 'trial material' gig a few weeks ago. Gritted teeth at times. But you might want to keep an eye out for the new album later this year. New side project of Biff's Simon and Slayer's Lombardo.
Thanks for the heads up. Two individuals I have enjoyed in their own surroundings

For those unfamiliar with Big Star, here's a song about the generally-aknowledged-genius-after-the-fact who led them, written by one of my favo(u)rite bands . . .

How did you know I was listening to Pleased to Meet Me today (LOL).

I actually think Chris Mars has better feel and timing than the likes of Bill Berry who of course I have a lot of time for and am delighted Bill has returned to the fold recently.

Little wonder Golden Smog snapped him up when they had the chance what a band name Hanna and Barbera you did well.

I think that's right. Berry was always more accompaniment than lead relative to Buck and Mills (who is underrated as a bassist I feel). The Stimsons were so loose they needed Mars to hold everything together whereas Buck and Mills were so tight the drummer mattered less.

Understand completely the point you make Fog but all things considered The Replacements on musicality , catalogue and tightness do it for me each time , even though REM's Chronic Town their first release on I.R.S goes close when it comes to what I admire and respect about Paul Westerberg definitely one of my favourite songwriters.

One of mine too, apart from ’The Mats’ I really like his solo output ’Suicaine Gratifcation ’ is one of my favourite albums.

Going to put Big Star on hold for the match but I’ve listened to Radio City six times in the last 48 hours so that ought to provide a decent sense of what I think about it . . .
Obviously you mean your beloved Giants Fog , they are starting to build a bit of momentum I see.

I hope they can hold on to their lead against the filth and keep them scoreless to boot.

The Gs are around .500 and seem to either win 7 in a row or lose 7 in a row! Cubbies are struggling this year. Tough division for the Gs with the Dodgers, and the Dbacks are a surprise. But still just a bit of football left before I go full baseball for two months!!!

Yes Fog , not that he needs it in his resume nor is he concerned with doubting Thomas's in the media but a win in Istanbul would top of his 7 years at the helm quite nicely.

He has made good players better and no doubt his man management skills are top notch.

Sorry to put the moz on the Giants today one innings again much like my Phillies this year changes the outcome.

They have always been my second team if you can even have one in the MLB and yes a tough division this year as you say with Arizona starting like division winners albeit its a long season.

I think the Marlins might tail off so our two teams like last season might end up battling for the last wild card position.

I reckon you have the best stadium going around for spectators etc alike and hope you stick with Gabe.
