Just been reading about them, sounds like they were unlucky in that they were collateral damage when Stax, who were supposed to be their distributor, degenerated into a bit of a shitshow in the 70s.

Heard the name but never anything by them other than the Bangles version of September Gurls, so looking fwd to listening.

Just on the ‘wasn’t a true stand out’ that sticks in the brain - Surely ‘Hey Boy Hey Girl’ does ? And ‘Out Of Control’ … both unforgettable tunes that are firmly lodged in my brain cells.

Other than that, nice review!

To me the lyrical hook in HBHG does but not necessarily the beat. And neither is quite the earworm Block Rockin’ Beats is. Just personal though! I have high standards when it comes to a standout dance track. I’m very much a “Is it good enough to be on Jock Jams?” type when it comes to dance hooks.

A couple of withdrawals (with plenty of notice), opened up a large gap in the running order so I've bumped everybody up two weeks. The new dates for the remainder of the round are shown below.

Note also that I'm close to a two-week holiday. Instead of postponing like last year, I've decided I won't deprive everybody of their fun because I know you can all keep this running between you.

So when Saddleworth2 and Coatigan nominate, just carry on without invitation on Wednesday 21st and 28th June, and I'll do the score catch-up first week in July.

For those who end up liking this Big Star album they may find that it's worth checking out another member of the band Chris Bell and his only solo album I Am A Cosmos. Very good record.

Went to see Empire State Bastard's 'trial material' gig a few weeks ago. Gritted teeth at times. But you might want to keep an eye out for the new album later this year. New side project of Biff's Simon and Slayer's Lombardo.
