Definitely. The Quay Lude character Fee Waybill played in their stage show is very similar to Tim Curry's.Not heard much Zappa, but I’m getting 10cc and Rocky Horror show vibes on some tracks.
When I heard the 10cc record we had before I absolutely thought of the Tubes! But I only knew 10cc from their pop phase when they broke into America until then.10cc is a good call

Apostrophe & Zoot Allures are definitely worth a listen.As I said Zoot Allures straight after this album was refreshing for me.
It’s not one of his albums I’d have on repeat as much as others, but as a snapshot of 1976, it doesn’t place The Tubes too far out on their own.
The thing about Zappa is, depending on what mood you are in there is a go to album.
Hot Rats is absolute classic composition but it’s instrumental bar one song.
Overnite Sensation and Apostrophe are go to albums for me.
Give them a go.
I find a lot of the early Mothers stuff hit and miss but they would have been way out there at the time. A lot of theatre in them.Apostrophe & Zoot Allures are definitely worth a listen.
I've got Joe's Garage and Sheik Yerbouti too.
Plus some live albums and one compilation.
