The Album Review Club - Week #145 - (page 1923) - Tellin' Stories - The Charlatans

I'd have Depeche Mode 101 as my favourite live album. Cheap Trick live at Budokan is the worst I've heard. Not because I don't like Cheap Trick but the screaming through the whole record is annoying. The mix is awful.

I've got live and dangerous, can't listen to it though as I'm hospital bound again. Bit of a bugger.

I like "Budokan". Have that on yellow vinyl as well as cd.

Get well soon.

Sorry to hear that Bimbo, get well soon.

I actually accept the point about live albums, they could be considered cheating but this isn't a competition. I wanted to do a Lizzy album and this is the best thing in their catalogue. Also, as I explained, it picked itself as my next review.

"Exit..." is great too but ATWAS is where my love of Rush started. I got that and "One More From the Road" as Xmas presents and can still remember playng them back to back on Xmas Day (1977 IIRC). Think anther of the albums I got that day and played on the day was the first Starz album. Headphone heaven that day was.
“It’s not a competition” says the fucker with the highest-scoring record and two in the top 5!! :) :) :)

I know TL’s hits and am especially partial to “Jailbreak” which is a long-time favo(u)rite song in general so I will look forward to this!

Reactions: OB1
We are off walking the Pennine Way Saturday for a couple of weeks, so I may as well score this one now - I might struggle for the next two picks!
Great write up from OB1 leaves not much else to say. This is one of my all time fav live albums and I also agree that this showcases TL. For me their studio albums just don’t capture their live qualities. PL is one of the greatest rock front men and his charisma on stage had audiences in the palm of his hand. I saw TL live three times and was never disappointed and they are up there with some of the best gigs I’ve ever attended.
Highlights for me… Jailbreak (I can still see the spots circling the crowd); Rosalie/Cowgirl’s Song; Boys Are Back In Town; Still In Love With You; Don’t Believe A Word; Dancing In The Moonlight. The rest are merely brilliant. If I had a to pick a track that did wasn’t quite up to par it would be Johnny The Fox, but I’m getting picky!
I get the argument that this is arguably a greatest hits album, but it’s Thin Lizzy at their absolute best so who gives a shit!
I’m a sucker for great electric guitar and this features two of the best ever. Brian Robertson left the band after this album was released.
It’s not just a great listen it’s total nostalgia and it’s a 10/10.

I have thought about nominating this record every time it has been my turn to pick.
Loved Thin Lizzy from high school onwards.
Johnny the fox,Jailbreak and Bad reputation all bought back in the day.
Then Live and Dangerous released, had it on vinyl double lp.
What a recording made me realise how the studio held their previous albums back.
All their classics are here including the brilliant cover version of Rosalie.
45 years later and I still play Live and Dangerous to this day.
A perfect band with Phil on bass and vocals,Robertson and Gorham that amazing twin guitar sound and Downey on drums.
Rock perfection. An all time classic for rock fans from the 70's era.10/10.
