The Album Review Club - Week #148 - (page 195x) - ???? - ????

I think I can maybe guess your swaps, which might point to your nominations. Too bad I already guessed though.

Thought I'd chosen a couple of songs that could be one of few people but maybe not :-(

Unrelated, finally got round to having a listen to Portugal The Man, not what I was expecting (in a good way).

Also apropos of nothing, it was the first anniversary of my big sisters death recently and as the lads had been asking what their aunty was like when she was younger and her music tastes etc, I made a trip playlist of some of the songs I remember her playing when I was very little that had stuck with me. In doing this I discovered that Steve Ellis of Love Affair was only 16 years old when he sang this....

Don't know if there's mileage in a 'singers who don't sound like they look thread' or whether it's already been done but I just wanted to share my astonishment at having known the song for years and then discovering the baby face that went with the voice!

I've had a few listens to the songs on the playlist and it's been good to hear a wide range of music - cheers @RobMCFC for sorting it out!

I didn't dislike any of them, but the ones which stood out for me as ones to return to are:

T-Rex - I've heard it before of course, but I ended up listening to plenty more T-Rex and what a band they were. So many brilliant pop/rock tunes! I think T-Rex are just one of them bands that everyone likes! (Ok, prove me wrong!)

The Be Good Tanyas - really quite liked the laid back, country track especially with the warm weather. Listening to it with some fancy new headphones with a beer in this heat was great!

Washed Out - they really reminded me of one of my albums earlier in the thread, Miami Horror. A very good, laid back tune that was right up my street - I will be listening a lot more to these.

Joe Walsh - great track I've not heard in a while. So much going in in the song and reminded me to listen to more of The Eagles as I've not listened to them for a while!

The Magnetic Fields - really liked this one and liked that vibe.

Latto - I know the hook is from a Tom Tom Club track, but there's just some extra energy from the production that really gets me!

Black Sabbath - pure, unadulterated heavy metal. I'd loved to have heard a track like this for the first time.

No woman, no cry - there's not much to add really except it's just a wonderful song. I'm not normally a fan of live tracks but the crowd really adds to this.

Cactus - what a track this is. Pure, unadulterated blues rock almost on the verge of a Motorhead. Just brilliant!

King Crimson - very Pink Floyd-ish I thought but really liked it. It's very easy to listen to but when you start to listen to each instrument there's a lot going on and all of it is brilliant, technically superb but also very melodic.

Bjork - I've nearly nominated this album a few times. It's magnificent.

I've left out my 2 nominations though :)

Thanks everyone for nominating, it's been a great listen over the last few weeks!

Well I’m not gonna get another win because everyone’s wise to my method of winning the last time! :) Plus I have a sense of a few but no clue on nearly all. My choices were simply plucked out of the hundreds — nay, thousands — of songs I like as I scrolled through a list and effectively stopped at random. Really!
If you get some time Fog with your knowledge and your highly developed episodic retention levels combined with some IT, I wouldn't put it past you to obtain the highest score.

Kites / Why D'ya Do It / Kindling / Strange Weirdos / Love&Regret

couple good ones there.

Just strange how he keeps slating everyone else's choices.
It’s not strange; it’s kinda obnoxious. There’s stuff you like, stuff you don’t like, and stuff you don’t like but you can understand why others like it. That last category is an important one.

I'd originally set 12.00PM as the deadline for this, but if you can have all of your entries in by the end of tomorrow, then that'll be fine.

Hell, as Foggy is the furthest west, I'll even allow until 12.00PM PST, which is 8.00 AM on Sunday morning for most of us.
