The Album Review Club - Week #147 - (page 1942) - Blonde On Blonde - Bob Dylan

You would need to present the irrefutable facts in forensic detail before I accept that.
Sorry mate. You’re post Brexit now. Forensic evidence, scientific proof etc is redundant. You’ll take what you’re given on the side of a bus.

Sorry have I derailed the Radiohead/Nirvana thread even further.

Late on a Friday night and I don’t know where to put this but I’m watching Graham Norton.
I have to say it.
Bono is unbelievable. He’s a tool. Always was and always will be. He’s up his own arse and wants the world up to believe he’s humble.
It’s the same act every time he’s interviewed.
I’m so ordinary.

And he has an unbelievably big head in comparison to his body. It’s huge.

Foggy. You take note. It is my journey in here to prove to the world there is better Irish bands out there than U2.

You have no idea what’s coming your way.

By the way this Ackles dood is not exactly growing on me but some of the stuff I found grating is wearing me down.
Good story telling but I’m used to good story tellers doing it differently.

I enjoyed David Ackles, to a point. It's all a bit "Pipe & Slippers" though.
The song Family Band in the first minute reminded me of 2 songs, the second one be The Tenessee Waltz " I remember.....etc. The first 10 seconds was something like Bringing In The Sheep.
David imo is a decent enough songwriter and pianist but somehow doesn't have that star quality that some had in the early 70's. Billy Joel, Elton John, Neil Diamond, Neil Sedaka all had it. Also David vocal range seems limited although his voice has a richness. His songs don't have the appeal of the great songs by the above artists.
My favourite song was Waiting For The Moving Van, a lovely poignant song, also Blues For Billy Whitecloud.

Perhaps there's just too much piano on the album ?

A nice choice imo. 6/10

This. All of this. But I fear a lower score from me.
I’m currently looking at a 4.
That’s even with Midnight Carousel growing on me.

I thought it was a change from guitar groups so gave it an extra point.
Such a kind person me..:)
Don’t get me wrong. Even with a low score like this from me, I’m so glad to investigate this style of music.
So much about it should hit the spot, but unfortunately it doesn’t.
Near miss? Never in contention? I really don’t know.
I do think the guy hasn’t the charisma to carry it off. Somebody else might. But on the other hand, is that not the point of this kind of music.
It’s not populist. Those it hits will stay with them forever. I’m in the rest category.

Thats what I meant about "star quality" David doesn't have that X factor that the big names have. He didn't write a big hit or two, he was a tad maudlin.
There are thousands of singer songwriters out there (including me) that just don't have what it takes to make it big. He didn't write a "Rocket Man" or "Sweet Caroline"
You've either got it or you don't.............Appeal.

Start with Thin Lizzy like chalk and cheese or should I say chalk and curdling milk.

Well it certainly did stand out, I'll grant you.

By the way, I hate fucking "Creep" too -- hated it from the instant I first heard it. Maybe they just got off on the wrong foot with me.

OKC is not ALL bad. I like 18% of Paranoid Android despite its endless running time, and the video for Karma Police is mildly interesting. :)
I don't like the word hate applied to music Fog I would prefer loathe but I get what you mean a 3/10 song for me at best on a good day. and family members have much their releases unfortunately (LOL) its one of the many songs I change channel to ASAP if I am driving alone and grin and bear it if passengers question why.
