Firstly, what a great introduction from
@Denis Law's Backheel that was, really set the mood. And thanks for helping me discover a great album,
a definite 9/10 (lost a mark for the "soiled nappy song").
Shamefully, though Roy Harper is a familiar name, it's mainly for the song that John Peel loved so much. I wouldn't have believed the Harper on this record was the one who wrote "
When An Old Cricketer Leaves The Crease".
Just listened to it a couple of times in the car on Tidal (posh), and what first jumps out is how beautiful it sounds, gorgeous production, far more than an acoustic folk album.
I really should have investigated Roy in 1984 when Liz Frazer sang "
Another Day" on that This Mortal Coil album that turned me onto Tim Buckley, but somehow I didn't. Sorry, Roy.
I try to avoid comparisons when talking about music, so I won't say who it reminds me of. It's just great songs, beautifully performed.
Are the other LPs that good ?
