Top 5

Trigger Inside

We Wait

Crow

Not for Want of Trying

Norland Wind

The surprise for me Trigger Inside a song I had not heard of before but I love the guitar work reminding me a little of early Metallica a great choice from whoever it was.

Now for the fun part.

Crispian St Peters

Other Lives

Black Keys

Cat Stevens

Maria McKee

Never heard of him before but I must admit to really enjoying the Crispian St Peters track. Will be adding to a playlist and looking out for more tracks of his.

I found most tracks very listenable and really enjoyed this playlist overall. Thanks to all.

Not for want of trying - awesome intro and music all the way , very dark, gentle piano and crashing guitars - a wall of sound. This is deffo a top 5 contender.
Lyrically I don’t know - one of them that rings true and always will, not sure I like being told to get angry. But I get the sentiment.

Prowler - another loud rocker, of course being Iron Maiden whom I’ve never quite got into, Catchy enough and a good riff all way through and an awesome solo.

You were on my mind - a welcome splash of 60’s, nice sound and a similar feel to a Roy Orbison hit the way it builds and builds.

Across The Water - the legend that is Elton. Never heard this one. Cool song. Well written and Elton John at his best.

Boyz - Nice to have a modern pick. Catchy and upbeat but probably the least favourite for me, made for Kiss not for us FOC.

One Day - Always fascinated by Bjork, her weird and whacky ways - Nice and chilled but nothing more.

Busted - Heavy Blues, cool track, wanted it to go on for longer.

We Wait - this stirs my Indie soul , very nice the way it builds.

Into White - one of the best Cat Stevens tracks I’ve heard. Nice melody.

Trigger Inside - A welcome return to heavy rock. Awesome headbanger. Let that rage out!

Surfs Up - Just couldn’t get into this one. Some piano parts are nice.

Crow - back to the Indie vibes - a beautiful song.

Blue Hotel - I like Ryan Adams, especially some well known covers he’s done. This is nicely written and sung, a very good track.

Absolutely Barking Stars - Really good song, got a Texas vibe, like the chord changes and the passionate chorus. Good pick.

Under My Skin - A bit Bryan Adams. Catchy.

Yellow Moon - Never heard of this or the Neville Brothers - love the groove all the way through and the Latino vibes. Enjoyed.

Norland Wind - Finishing off on my favourite genre, beautiful track. Nice acoustic folk with a real Scottish feel.

An interestingly mixed list but as last time I have no idea who picked what.

No absolute stand out tracks, apart from my own of course but some decent picks

Not for want of trying- Didn't like the opening but once we got into the track proper I liked this a lot. Similar to Public Service Broadcasting with the sampling, there's a danger of it being hackneyed but this worked well. Bits of the music reminded me of the Line of Duty music as well which is by the by but I thought it introduced a hint of tension. A Maybe She Will track came up on autoplay and I liked that as well, probably worth a further listen.

Prowler- OK of it's type but it's not for me

You were on my mind- Sounded pretty dated but I liked it all the same, could see it on one of those sixties compilation shows of studio performances.

Madman Across the Water- In a category I've made up with Rod Stewart as someone who was a bit rubbish by the time I was getting into music but I've made a mental note to explore their earlier work at some point as some of it is allegedly good. Don't get the love for this track, it's OK but a bit ponderous.

Boys- nah, noisy, not my type of thing sorry.

One day- Inwardly groaned when I saw Bjork on the playlist but this was a lot better than I thought it was going to be, not overly quirky like the only ever Bjork song I've knowingly heard.

Busted- not for me on first few listens

We Wait- don't really get the Tindersticks comparison made by @threespires but it does have a cinematic feel to it. I do like a western. I may be wrong but this is what I imagine Calexico to sound like

Into White- nice but drifts by. Coincidentally overheard my wife telling my guitar playing son to listen to that song about a boy growing older or his dad dying or whatever it is. Don't know if there is something I should know... Cat Stevens does seem to specialise in this sort of whimsy. I like this by the way, just in case there's a doubt.

Trigger Inside- Of the "heavier" tracks this is my favourite, decent hook

Surfs Up- I'm undecided on this. Could be a favourite with more listens. Smile is one of those albums I expect I should get round to listening to although I'd mitigate that by saying I never really got into Pet Sounds, another so called classic.

Crow- Very pleasant whimsy. Bear's De on the list to explore a little more

Blue Hotel- Am I getting Ryan Adams mixed up with someone I expected to be rubbish? Not my usual kind of music but I liked this one

Absolutely Barking Stars- strong vocal, never heard of her but this is a good track, could be in the top five.

Under My Skin- generic rock or something? Didn't enjoy this

Yellow Moon- possibly a winner, lovely vibe, could have been improved by having the actual Neville Brothers singing Blue Moon but this will do as an alternative.

Norland Wind- a gentle breeze rather than a full force gale. Not sure about it but time for it to percolate through.

I've got an idea of some of my top five but too early to commit. As for guessing who's is who, there are some people I've got in the frame for more than one song and some I haven't got a clue about. Time yet though to copy other people's educated guesses and incorporate them into my own.

Aaron Neville singing Blue Moon would be a sweet sweet sound, he'd make a brilliant job of it. Would probably displace Cowboy Junkies as my favourite version.

On the Tindersticks comparison it was specific to the album review we did and I agree they don't sound like them per se it was just something about it that put me in mind.

As for Surfs Up - I've just had a look and I don't think there's been very much mention or discussion of the Beach Boys/Brian Wilson on these pages which is quite interesting given their place in popular music.

Just had a look back at the previous playlist, overall I think this one marginally shades it for me.

This has been a good listen.

Tempted to say , can we do this more regularly
Personally prefer this format as quite often I'd like to put a band forward that have some good individual tracks but not really great albums.

I'm going to bid farewell to the album review threads anyway for the time being as I just don't have the time really to do them justice and review fairly. I also don't really have much left that I would want to nominate other, than classical. Most non-classical albums that I love are pretty well known and so not much point in nominating them.
