That's the exact reason why they are not moving. If you were told this was the last year you are gonna make your current salary. Next year you'd be making half or less. Then your company ask you if you'd like to move to another company this year and start the half salary period a year earlier than you need to. No one in their right mind will take that deal.

So it's no surprise Kolarov doesn't want to.

But say Yaya is on 30 birthday cakes a week. He's got another year on his contract at that rate. Another club has come in and offered him 20 birthday cakes a week.

In the short term, of course he wants those 520 extra cakes over the next year from us but, once that year is up, that same club might offer him 5 or 10 birthday cakes a week because he's just spent a year getting morbidly obese. There's not even a guarantee that any club would offer him any cakes.

So, if he was to move now he'd most likely have to take a pay cut but, depending on what the pay cut is, it might be better in the long term to do that because he could easily become a forgotten man over the next 12 months and then he's going to struggle to convince anyone he's worth a single birthday cake.

That's why his baker is trying to figure out how he can have his cake and eat it too.

Ahh, but if he left now he would get a massive signing on birthday cake big enough to have a soak in. Lots of little birthday cakes on one hand against a huge birthday cake on the other.
