Quite agree. This latest fad for 'getting it done early' is nonsensical. Transfer window has been open for 18 days and it shuts in 44!
It takes 3 months to buy a house, that you want to buy, they want to sell, you know what the money is, they know what the money is, there is no chain and there are no unforeseen problems! Buying footballers is often just the opposite.
As for this preseason stuff, I remember, in the good old days before transfer windows, you bought a player on Thursday in November and he was playing on the Saturday. Sometimes you bought 3 or 4 and they all played the next game!

Haha yes.

Joe Royle from Everton reserves straight into the City team at Anfield springs to mind.

It would definitely be preferable to get all our targets signed up and sorted as early as possible but each are different. United are prepared to pay huge fees, Nolito had a release clause and has worked with Pep, Chelsea had laid groundwork for Kante and blew everyone out of the water (plus Leicester didn't want to make it an auction due to that Champs league clause Kante had). Conversely, KDB was not sure about signing us and PSG were a very real threat. Sané is young, impressionable and it's a big move to go to another country, plus Schalke want to rinse us. Everton seem to want a replacement in before officially letting Stones go.

We should get our targets with enough time for a decent pre season with Pep!

I do agree that signings can be hard, different things can get in the way but the examples of world class players moving to us in complicated deals I said before shows it can be done and in a timely manner. Everything just seems to drag these days, you say Chelsea done groundwork on kante, I would imagine we have on Stones Sane etc and not much movement happening.

The euros & copa are the problem with the pre season. We already have 3 players in & another signed, on the way if rumours in Colombia are true.

If all the squad were back now & training, we would be well ahead of the game irrespective of what else happens in the market.

Ahead in terms of having our players back, not in terms of building and strengthening the squad. Signing players to loan out doesn't equate being ahead for me just yet until our squad is added to which I am sure it will, my flap is just at the slow progress of it.

It isn't a fad is it wanting players in early, have a pre season in their new team with a new manager and maybe in a new country. It's called being prepared and ready from the get go. All well and good 44 days until the window shuts however it's less than that until the season starts. I'm just more concerned how our deals seem to take lightyears longer than most others these days. Plus I am bored until the season starts I want entertaining.

The point I was trying to make in regards the difference between our deals and Chelsea, are the evident willingness on both the selling team and player to get the move done. We have got the players on side and are either haggling a price or allowing a replacement to be brought in.

It is a bit frustrating that we are so accommodating, like allowing Liverpool to play everything out in front of the media for Sterling.

Hopefully though, Stones will be in soon, we'll reach agreement for Sané, Pogba will go to Real, Kroos to us and we spunk a wad on Bonucci

Haha I am holding you to that last sentence!

Our transfer business seems to have stalled for the moment, but I look around and on the face of it, no one has done any better. A lot of money spent, but out of the big players in the Premiership, I don't see any really significant signings. Kante to Chelsea is good, but they were a bit behind. Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool, Utd yet to make any inroads on City, and 4th or not, we are the team to beat.

We have had the best window so far- Zinchenko, Gundogan, Nolito, all for about the same price that Sadio Mané is apparently worth. The truth is we could stop signing players right now and still have the best squad in the league by a distance come September. Liverpool and United have both done pretty well for themselves, Arsenal have been, well, Arsenal, Spurs haven't done too much, and Chelsea have spent a lot of money on a world-class midfielder and a somewhat unproven Belgian striker.

I cant believe we have signed Gundogan and Nolito so cheaply and so early. Excellent bit of business. We have without doubt strengthened our squad.
Is zinchenko going to be loaned out or straight into the first team?

We've signed 3 players so far (at a good price), Chelsea have 2, in which parallel universe is that better than us?

And how exactly do we stop another club (Liverpool in this case) from following their own agenda? We didn't bite and respond did we?
