The Ashes 2015

The Aussie keeper showed more bollocks batting than all of them put together. 37 runs off 100 plus deliveries is proper test match batting. The rest were awful including Warmer who once again threw his wicket away. Had he stayed in, then Australia would probably be 50/60 ahead with 5 wickets to go and in with a chance.

England were just as sloppy when batting. I'm not sure why there is now an obsession with scoring off almost every ball in tests. 20/20 fine, 50 over fine but not 5 days...Edgbaston will lose a fortune

Its modern day "attacking" cricket, its a different game, but still a good spectacle, all down to 20/20, and eventually will shorten test cricket, the best you can say is that at least games have winners 95% of the time, even if the weather intervenes.

Personally, I'm neither one way (traditional), or the other (modernist), so long as its entertaining, just enjoy it.

This, it will set the best batsmen apart now, as they'll be either to switch up momentum when needed, it's why the likes of De Villiers are stars. The Aussie batting line-up looked weak coming in, and it took a batting paradise (which England bottled it on) for them to get Smith to deliver a huge knock, and Rogers is otherwise the only other that's shown a real fight. The England batting isn't great in reality, but the Aussies aren't a mile ahead like they were 18 months ago on their own track.

A lot more players these days seem to be solely masters of their own conditions, many of them lacking the discipline to transfer it across continents. The next great side will have to mix aggression with discipline, it will be interesting to see who masters it first. A lot of great batsmen have retired in recent years, and they've held down spots in national sides which have deprived a generation of the necessary experience, so it may take a few years for the next generation of global stars to seep through.

I'm slightly worried that the Aussies could score another 100 runs this morning then the jitters could set in when Johnson runs in with the new ball.

Great post.

Well the England players should be thinking and mentally preparing themselves that they might have to at least chase 150 to win..
