It started off as a racial slur then when racism became unfashionable everyone claimed it was because someones name sounded like a banana.

Why would you type this comment?

I don't know where to start in responding so will just say that what you've written is a wrong.

He's an unfortunately needy, serial attention seeker.

I wouldn't say he was stupid but the windows in his house come in different flavours.

that has nothing to do with the banana craze at city it was just something that seemed to appear and catch on, some say it was to do with imrai viradi, but one thing for sure is it had nothing to do with race and was more an insight into the unique humour of city fans

they sold them in the club shop as well and you could get them in varying sizes if you got stuck behind someone with a big one it could be a pain in the arse as it could block your view when being wafted about

Complete and utter nonsense; this post has really annoyed me. Now Frank Newton might not be my cup of tea and he might be many things, but one thing he absolutely isn't is a racist. Nor, for that matter, do I recall racism ever being 'fashionable' anywhere.

I suggest you read this and educate yourself about a small but oft-recalled aspect about our club's history...

Oddly enough, when I spoke to Peter Swales about this many, many years ago, the first thing he asked me was: "Is it racist?" Once he had been assured it wasn't, City got on it as well.

Sadly, there will always be people like you who will see things that just aren't, and never were, there. Stick to your crayons Pee Dubya as you clearly don't know what you are talking about, on this one at least.

SO WRONG........why bring racism into it?

I don't think anybody can claim with any real authority the origins of the banana craze. And it's not really important. It was good fun and almost everybody got in on it in some way or other. Like a previous poster has already said, other clubs also took up the craze and had their own inflatables.

One thing that I am bloody sure of though is that it is NOT race-related.

A sentence so wrong on so many levels, but what slipped under the radar for me is.....
When exactly was racism fashionable?
Fuckin Dick......
