The Bananas ...WHY...Educate us young pups please!

The Mcvita article is different to the one on Kick-Off will Elton Welsby (or the Friday night Grananda show) .

That had an older bloke in the Maine Stand claiming he started it, he used to buy a ticket for his bannana too, but when everyone started getting them he brought a crocadile.

The Bradford promotion game was the end of the craze.

A sentence so wrong on so many levels, but what slipped under the radar for me is.....
When exactly was racism fashionable?

The MCVITA version of events is the definitive one; the one on YouTube is pie in the sky - nothing more.

Agree... I knew Frank quite well. Leave it back there though, no need for reviving it...

I only know what I remember and my first recollection was seeing one at a night match at Sheff. Utd I think in the 87/88 season because I remember having the checquered red/black away shirt on.

I saw one 3 ft banana which wasn't inflatable but like a fluffy toy and when it was held aloft everyone started chanting BANANA BANANA.

Nothing racist whatsoever. I thought it was funny so much so that I told everyone about it at work the next day and wrote BANANA on the toilet wall in black marker. (Stupid boy)

The following season, they were everywhere.

Good vid that peaman. The scarf around the banana at 0:58 is like my checked one. Best City scarf ever. The girl at 1:30 looks like that blonde piece out of two pints of lager, and yes I would.

At the end of the day "pee dubyas crayons" you should apologise for getting this wrong mate.

We know there's racism everywhere, and in every race, but to try and say that our sense of humor as fans was/is racists then its time to check your head.

Then to back your post up with "old" footage from tele, its weak mate. Times have changed, maybe you should let go.

Enjoy it for what it is, a bit of fun, an inflatable banana. Not a racist connotation.

This post disgusts me. I've been posting on Internet football message boards since 1996, and I can honestly say that this is the single most moronic contribution I've ever seen in all that time.

Unless your IQ is lower than your shoe size, then you're a WUM and I really shouldn't give you the satisfaction of rising to the bait. But I can't help it when someone posts a slur which is so far off the mark, it's untrue. Shame on you.
