The battle for 4th place

If we want to attract the best players, I agree. But do you concede that they will actually want to compete in it, rather than just qualify for it year on year?

Just on your last para.. Yes, most definitely. Our best 11 I believe will play the rest of the season. The team that we saw yesterday will be spread far and wide come August

Of course we have to compete and if you mean the next game they will want to compete. They have a chance but it's simply too much of a gamble to put all our Euro eggs in the Winning It basket.

And in our league situation at present you never just throw games like we did yesterday.

So when do we put our eggs in one basket?.
I don't believe for one moment the manager threw the game yesterday (but that is just my opinion). The players did that for him

I want to be in Europe NEXT season. As it is we won't be.
As it is we have about a 65-70% chance to qualify for next season. Plus about a 30% chance to get to the final-not the worst situation to be in. The manager got the selection right-Southampton had a very good chance of beating our best eleven let alone the team that did play.

It looks to me, from his recent selections and in game actions that he has had no interest or concern whatsoever with league results. Some of his actions, such as bringing on DMC yesterday, defy any logic.

Some of the players also haven't made any effort to earn their pay. Bony and Kolorov in particular.

The game had gone when he put demichelis on-again he was right to protect the players. Fernandinho was terrible, so was Otamendi-both certain to start Wednesday.

Don't agree with your odds. As it stands I don't see us beating either Arsenal or Swansea. Southampton was a must win game, or at least a Not Lose one and neither the manager nor the players made any effort to get a result.

The daft thing had he had the gumption to get Wins under his belt earlier in the Season he could rest players now with top 4 already secured. But no,he had to fuck about any rotate for the sake of it. I'd sack him tonight then hope kidd could win us the CL and pellegrini misses out on his holy grail.

A bit harsh Bill but painfully true, I don't think Kidd is good enough to manage City, he'll probably be on his toes in a few weeks leaving him more time to develop his gardening column in the Portsmouth News !!

Surely there will be no more team changes, unless forced, after Wednesday. Strongest side every game regardless of whether we reach the final or not.

I just don't see how Pellegrini had much choice yesterday- but you are right the players let us down. It was always going to be a difficult game and the players minds were clearly elsewhere-we could miss out on both but doesn't mean he was wrong to do what he did. The players are now rested for Wednesday and we will deal with Arsenal afterwards. Playing a full team yesterday we could have still lost, been knackered for Wednesday and then knackered for Sunday. It was a risk we had to take.

Agreed. The problem is that the manager thinks the strongest team is comprised of whoever hasn't played for a few days and the best way to prepare is to completely ignore the other team when it comes to tactics.

As I said in my opinion the damage has been done earlier in the Season.

He had plenty of choices. Not playing his discredited 442 to begin with. Starting Aguero and trying to win the game in the first half. Not chasing the game with a Demi and Nasri midfield two.

I don't buy the idea that professional footballers need a week to recover anyway. One game at a time in our situation.

It was. Frankly we deserve nothing this season in the league. It's a miracle
We still have a chance of top 4. Why suddenly people think we will beat a top 8 side for the first time this season next week in our 14th game against one, I don't know.

however shit yesterday was we still have 3rd place in our own hands. Swansea are now definitely safe, Arsenal is a must win game which we have four days to recover after Madrid. United have a potential banana skin in an early kick off at Norwich then a tough match away at West Ham where a draw would be great for us. I just hope we have seen the end of Bony, Kolarov, MDM and dare I say it Zabaleta for the remainder of our games.

Aguero was poor in the first game against Madrid. How many games are won by half time? The bigger risk was to play full strength and still lose plus injuries/fatigue for Wednesday. Demi sub showed we had given up on the game.

4 days to recover? 2 and a half (Thursday, Friday and Saturday morning)

Yesterday's?
Ha well almost-I don't disagree with your comments totally I just think the selection was correct. KDB definitely plays better fresh and Aguero was in need of a rest. Wednesday is still incredibly hard but at least we go in with the best chance we could have. There is a scenario where we lose and then slip up against Arsenal but so be it.

Well, I could be wrong. I'm sixty this month so it's bound to happen one day. ;)
