The battle for 4th place

Going in to these last two games I'd feel a hell of a lot more confident if we had James Milner on the pitch. For me we have had not one player who came anywhere close to matching the battle, energy and desire he brought to the team.Instead we have a lazy load of prima donnas who consider getting a sweat on is below them. Forget the arguments about why he left but it was yet another poor call where we failed to replace what he brought to the side. Our hierachy think football is a chess game not a man's game.

Arf.

I don't agree about Milner. I think his time at City had run its course and the decision to leave was largely his. But I agree with your general point.

After we lost at Barca last season it was reported in the press that we would be looking to replace some of the more flaky players with players with a better attitude. I agreed with that but it didn't really happen. Signing Sterling for an inflated price seemed a step in the opposite direction.

How can anyone be 'gutted'. One of the two games that mattered today went well for City. So it was at worst a half bad day. Not a disaster.

And today's results are really secondary to what WE have to do tomorrow.

Win, lose or draw other teams what matters is down to us and us alone.

And we have not even played yet.

The time for anyone to feel gutted is if we do not win tomorrow. If we do then the pressure will all be on United. And it will still be in our hands even if they then respond - by just winning one last match next Sunday we will be home in 3rd.

We are lucky to have about the 99th chance this season to get things done. It is up to us to not toss it away.

nail on head. Nothing has changed from yesterday in that it is still in our hands and because the rags (how the fuck I don't know), squeeze out another three points, some fans just cannot cope with that

That's the thing. James Milner wasn't a star, never has been, never will be. But he could easily be MOTM many times a season in many different positions. Never stops working, never stops running and can increase the work rate of others around them, making the team better as a result. We've tried to make Delph that player this season but going off his games in the left wing, it's clear as day, this lad isn't that player. He cannot play in different positions.

The thing is, there might not be any more James Milners out there. They're very hard to spot.

John O'Shea was that player for United for a while. I remember him once playing in centre mid at Highbury against that great Arsenal team and he scored and got MOTM in a United win. John O'fucking-Shea, better than Henry and Scholes in a big game. That's what Milner used to bring to us but I think you fall upon those players rather than purposely go out and find them and Milner wanted to play for Liverpool and we haven't happened to find that kind of player to replace him.

Because we don't trust our manager or team to get our side of things right!

Milners time had run but yea, he had the Right Stuff. There are very few of our players who can make that claim.

Sick of hearing about 'confidence players'. When I hear that term I hear 'wuss'.

Hey guys, I just remembered, a story dad used to tell, he is in the Kippax, near half way line, City score first goal, everybody celebrating going mad, guy near dad calmly say "that'll be the equaliser" see what I mean!

Well, seeing as pretty much everyone on here is borderline on doom-and-gloom, then according to the storyline we'll probably win tomorrow. If so that would just be typical City.

Thanks for the story. My mind is constantly telling me that there is a high chance we may lose (currently Arsenal play a bit better than us, and our recent record against them is not that good), but this fills me with much more hope than before.:)

I'm sat here trying to think of more than one.......our midfield is so bereft of fight it genuinely is unbelievable.

Me neither. We need players on the field who would bollock Kolorov for taking the piss or forwards hiding. Not to mention leading by example. But hopefully next season we will see them.

He's a nice man is Manuel. Yawn.
Should have gone a year ago.
Like Newcastle we may bear the fruits of the seeds that have been sowed. Hopefully not
