The BBC | Tim Davie resigns as Director General over Trump documentary edit (p 187)

Comments in the Mail are comedy gold. You can almost hear the frothing of the commenters. Absolutely no doubt that Lineker will be the new Prince Harry for the right wing press when it comes to demonisation.

Every day is a school day. Like many others, I had no objection to Lineker tweeting on politics, but I felt that the nazi reference was ott.
But, I checked and found to my astonishment that Germany had a plan to deport Jews to Madagascar in 1940. Madagascar was then a French colony and Germany planned to take it over after hostilities. Google Madagascar Plan.
Also in 1938, Germany deported jews of Polish origin, but German citizens, to Poland where they effectively became stateless. Other countries were invited to take them. Britain declined. Germany at that time distinguished between ‘good Jews’ (German and Austrian) and ’bad’ Jews, mainly of Polish origin. Who knew?

Basically you've articulated the counter arguement, right wing bias at the bbThe BBC -drama especially, has been totally captured by the “Progressive” Left to the extent that it’s not even worth watching much of their output because the conclusion is laughably predictable.
It'll never catch on ;-)

I think this is where we really need to be focusing our energy and discussion in relation to the BBC instead of all this manufactured culture war bollocks, i.e what does it mean to be a 'national broadcaster' in the changed media landscape - if/how best should it meet it's charter goals going forward?

To do this we need the right type of culture secretary and the right type of senior management at the BBC, ignoring any political allegiances I don't think the current incumbents have the backgrounds for this. In fairness, we're hardly the only country struggling to keep our governance structures up to speed with technological advances, I am reminded of Zuckerberg running rings round most of the house finance committee until Ocasio-Cortez started asking questions at which point he looked like he wanted to stab her for having the temerity to understand aspects of his world/business model.
Agreed the big issue here is the BBCs future and the Director of the BBC and the Culture Secretary (a recent innovation to basically give some Toady MP a Cabinet Post) should be totally independent of any Political Party.

Would it have been ok if he had said it was similar to some of the language used during the early 1900s in Rwanda during the occupation by Germany, where they split the population by who they deemed to be the more superior race? Then the propaganda used by the organisers of the genocide to slowly brainwash the Hutu into believing that the Tutsi were foreign and did not belong there.
The Belgians did the same in the Congo. Eugenics was all the rage then and considered quite respectable.

Not really

Blair and Brown with their illegal war was the root cause. Everything we've had to deal with since was caused by them!! Ultimately Displacing 10’s of millions across a huge region all stemmed from that decision! They should both be in jail….

They hung Sadame Hussein, so maybe that’s the appropriate penalty.

Deborah Meaden regularly critcizes Govt policy - mostly on climate and she doesn't get banned either. The massive stupidity of it all is that they take on their one critic who fronts the most popular game in the country - who advises them

Corbyn, Meghan, Sam Smith … now it’s Lineker to face the right wing bots/trolls/angry gammons until they move on to their next victim

Of course though - they are not the snowflakes

With Alistair Campbell as a cell mate

I think in this case he's been stupid with his wording, he could have said he disagrees with the policy without playing to the audience by adding the whole Nazi analogy.

I really hate that people are pretending that he compared the Conservatives to the Nazis, because that's not what he said and you all know it.

He said that the language used by the Conservatives to justify their new policy is similar to the language the Nazis used to justify their actions, which is, linguistically speaking, accurate. Factual.

It really makes me laugh, the Tory MPs who say they much prefer to watch Match of the Day with no punditry and no theme tune. These people are too fucking stupid to realise that Sky Sports have been offering exactly that on YouTube for years and years. And you can watch it in your own time instead of waiting for 10:30 on a Saturday night.

I don't care for the punditry so I just watch the highlights of PL games when they come out. In total across a whole weekend it takes me maybe 3 mins to watch every single goal.

Sadly starting to think Bluemoon is heading towards Twitter territory and being infiltrated by trolls and bots - some of the repeated shite being peddled by more and more posters is getting tiresome

Maybe I’m just being paranoid

Ha ha! I expected a bit better from Portillo to be honest. This tweet in the replies sums up how I feel about him:

I loved watching him on This Week. Andrew Neill, Portillo, Ed Balls, Alan Johnson. Proper political debate, both sides giving and taking. And fantastic piss taking of John Bercow, aka “Big John”.

Thats why I used the word analogy which means partial similarity. He didn't call them Nazis but he did infer that their behaviour around this issue was similar.

Anyway its all old news now, Im sure he will be back next Saturday to offer his footballing pearls of wisdom.
