The Bbq thread.

Get a weber 57cm kettle willpp the original and best bbq you can get before you start getting into the heavy cost stuff. That 200 quid will get you the cooker, cover, utensil kit and a couple sacks of good briquettes and smoking wood, everything you need.

Ste, you need to buy some smoking wood like bags of cherry, hickory, mesquite etc. To cook on a smoker and get the most out of it your looking at low and slow.
Brisket, ribs, pork shoulder, leg of lamb, beef ribs etc. Is it a drum bbq or vertical smoker ?, if it is a drum you want to test on cheap cuts like pork shoulder first and find your hot spots and get a feel for it.

On a side note i am going to start a competition bbq team "Bluemoon BBQ" as i went to a bbq comp here recently and i am not blowing my own trumpet here but i could have done better than the winner after a bottle of jack. Most of them did not even trim the fat of their brisket or kept opening their smoker to look at the meat (terrible mistake, unforgivable) or left the silverskin on ribs etc. So basically i wondered if anyone else here fancies the idea of it. I do not mind doing it alone with my dog as assistant and chief bbq meat guard but would be cool also if anyone else fancies it :-)
They competitions are really a fun gathering and half the teams are more intent on getting pissed but there is also glory, tasty sweet glory to be had.

I've just invested in a Weber 57cm kettle premium, comes next week. Sounds the same as what @TCIB has got. Never bbq'd before in my life But really want to get good at it.

I bought the Weber briquettes and beech wood too. So glad I found this thread.
