The beauty of Manchester

Not strictly Manchester but anywhere in the Irwell Valley. Wild deer in there, sometimes see them on my cycle commute through Prestwich Clough and Drinkwater Park.

Daisy Nook in Failsworth/Woodhouses.

You can walk from Failsworth to Hartshead Pike and back and there's always something to see. It's a fantastic Country Park on our doorstep.

I also like walking the Rochdale Canal as well, so many buildings, wildlife etc.
I like riding the Rochdale Canal - the towpath, that is!

Buildings, parks or places?

Building I will say Heaton Hall and its surroundings. One of a few places where rabbits have no care of human presence.

Places to visit I still fancy the Manchester Museum and MOSI occasionally especially when bringing young relatives around.

My jog route, when I was still able to jog then, was always along Fairfield Street and make my way to Etihad, then go out all the way to Ancoats and beyond.

Manchester has its own beauty spots but to each their own I guess.
MOSI not half as good since they got rid of the aircraft.

Marie Louise Gardens in Didsbury and then a walk along the River Mersey. Marie Louise Gardens are hidden but beautiful and peaceful.

Worsley is maybe not classed as Manchester to some but it’s Gtr Manchester.
A stroll through the village (don’t call in George’s though*!) then through the car park opposite the Court House and along the canal toward Astley and Leigh.

Buildings? Chetham’s Library, John Rylands Library not forgetting Central Library itself.
Plus The Midland Hotel and the Albert Hall.

I could go on for a while, in fact I could bore for England on beautiful places in and around Manchester. :-) or maybe bore for Manchester!! :-) :-)

* George’s is part owned by Giggs so I give it a wide border!!! :-)

The Secret Lake is by the Mike Doyle Centre. Highfield Country Park and Nelstrop Lane on the Leve/Reddish border are pleasant enough, with the Thirlmere Aquaduct flowing by.

Loads of good suggestions so far. That's next Sunday sorted. Cheers.

Getting on the Fallowfield Loop via Burnage Lane and cycling to Debdale Reservoir, stopping off at the 'Secret Lake' in Levenshulme on the way.
It feels like I'm a million miles from the hustle and bustle of the hectic life of Manchester.

Chorlton and Sale marinas.
I used to live on the Merseybank Estate so Chorlton Water Park was my back garden, and the amount of litter around there used to get right on my tits. Especially after Friday nights when people would go there to drink and they’d leave all their cans lying around.

Could be very nice there but never quite was because of that.

I find Wythenshawe Park much cleaner. But it doesn’t have much water other than the Brook.

We did get a lot of bright green parakeets going between CWP and Southern Cemetary though.

During the pandemic I walked around town like I’d never done before, looking up at the buildings. The architecture is quite stunning in places. Deansgate, King Street etc etc. Even the buildings on Piccadilly approach which as an area gets a bad rep.

I think when you live in a place or are from somewhere, you just take it for granted and don’t even ‘look up.’

Or maybe it’s just an age thing too.
