The amazing thing about his life is that if you wrote that story, scripted it and pitched it to be made into a movie the response would be " great story but real life just isn't like that " - the guy lived such a dramatic life.
After his appearance on this documentary saw Bob Wilson live on breakfast TV extolling Bert's virtues and saying Gordon Banks thought Bert was the #1 keeper ever too. Some praise when you also consider how close to Frank Swifts career this was.
Was talking to my Dad about this as Bert is his era and he joked that given the broken neck incident he doubts that even death would see Bert come off - he'd probably signal to the bench he was ok to carry on even as he drew his terminal breath such is the guys legenday courage.
