The Bert Trautmann Story on Yesterday channel

Great programme. Bert came across as a real gent.
It must have been really tough losing his 5 year old son while he was still in hospital.

The amazing thing about his life is that if you wrote that story, scripted it and pitched it to be made into a movie the response would be " great story but real life just isn't like that " - the guy lived such a dramatic life.

After his appearance on this documentary saw Bob Wilson live on breakfast TV extolling Bert's virtues and saying Gordon Banks thought Bert was the #1 keeper ever too. Some praise when you also consider how close to Frank Swifts career this was.

Was talking to my Dad about this as Bert is his era and he joked that given the broken neck incident he doubts that even death would see Bert come off - he'd probably signal to the bench he was ok to carry on even as he drew his terminal breath such is the guys legenday courage.

RIP Bert.

Hi guys, I started a group on facebook two or three years ago atleast to try and gain support to have a stand named after the legend that is Bert Trautmann but unfortunatly at the time it didnt really gather pace. I am hoping that due to recent events that i can count on every blue or football fan in general to sign this petition and send it to the club to have a fitting tribute to the great man. http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/standfortrautmann
Share it as much as possible please guys.
