The Best Country In The World

Australia is full of Australians.

It's too bastard hot.

You're only taking a dump away from being bitten by a deadly spider.

You're only a swim away from a bastard big shark eating your leg.

Give me Manchester & it's surrounding areas any day of the week.

For the country with the worst quality of life enough people want to come here and enjoy it ;-)

Here's a report about Australia you might enjoy.

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/mar/20/australia-relative-poverty-above-oecd-average-report" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/m ... age-report</a>

a classic case of not really reading my post, I said for people who are prepared to work hard, yes there will always be the shirkers who dont want to work and end up poor.
If you work hard here you can have a helluva lot more than you can in the UK, I left school at 15 and learned a trade and then studied more....I have a large 14 roomed house with 4 car garage on nearly 2 acres with a swimming pool 30 minutes to the City centre and 5 minutes to the nearest beach, I could never have achieved that in the UK, you have to be a prem footballer haha

I think the people who flood into the UK do want to go there I agree but these are mainly people from poor countries and they want to better themselves financially, in other words financial migrants, I dont see floods of people from other English speaking countries queueing up at the gates

Id like to add - to the OP, good on you mate theres nowt wrong with being proud of where you live, maybe Britain wouldnt have so much crap going on if others thought like you.

The quality of life isn't just measured by asking the well to do section of society nimrod.

I bet the 10% going hungry in Oz don't have that happy disposition you have because they've got nowt.

You are not the yardstick for the Australian society.

<Bit jealous of the pool etc> ;-)

Fair point mate, its only an opinion

I can only say what I see, and my point was to the OP that if you work hard here you end up with a better standard of life than in the UK

Nobody has to go hungry in Oz though, we have a welfare system that is very generous, more genrous than the UK.... way too generous imo

The beauty I in Aus is there is so much you can do for free and you can live an outdoor life and do more for less. It's a continent so there are places that would make for a bloody hard life but you can choose where on the continent you live and there is an incredible chance for people with a trade and hard work to get that pool and 14 room house. Also for cost some things are deadly but much is free

I put it to you fellow bluemooners that us English folk live in the best country in the world.

This is something I firmly believe and after reading about the conversations about national pride/patriotism in the St George's Day thread I thought I would start this thread to see if people agree.

Reasons why I believe this:
1. England/UK is one of the most culturally diverse, accepting and tolerant countries. I myself am an immigrant, my family moved here when I was twelve but growing up and my whole adult life I have never felt like an outsider. Most people really do not see skin colour here.
2. The NHS and free school education. Having lived in a few other countries where there is no health service I feel passionately about our greatest institution the NHS and would march on London to protect it.
3. Real natural beauty: The countryside, hills, lakes, all the beautifully preserved historic sites.
4. Great culture: Music, sport, art, history, traditions, pubs.....
5. Weather isn't really that bad. We don't have extreme heat or cold weather, we don't get water/elec/gas shortages.
6. We don't get tornadoes, earthquakes, tsunamis (fingers crossed we never do)
7. No killer animals : poisones snakes/spiders, alligators or anything really that could kill you.
8. Good economy: If you work/study hard you can be successful. You have the chance to achieve your dreams
9. Low crime: We don't have real gun crime, gangs, or any huge amount of organised crime (that i know of).
10. Benefits: Having lived in countries where you either work or you starve. Having seen whole families that live in shantytowns, under bridges etc, I feel we do take care of our out of work/old folk etc. When people say 'poverty' in this country it really isn't even close to the level of poverty in say Africa/Asia

I could go on and on...... but will just finish with this ........

My uncle who spent his whole life in Pakistan came to visit England for the first time. I took him all around the UK and one day we were standing by a lake in the Peak District and he said to me "This country is just like how I have imagined heaven to be"

English and Proud!

I'll agree with you on 3, its the thing I miss most. 4 I'd agree with as well.

Strongly disagree with 5, the weather is shit.

7 I'd personally disagree with, its fun having all of this wildlife here its one of the best things about the place!

I'm in no rush to move back just yet, too many other exciting places to sample first but I do definitely think I would appreciate the UK a lot more if and when I do, its not the shithole some make it out to be.

Don't worry about the "over generous" benefits mate Toned Abbs and Sweaty Joe seem to be clamping down on that sort of thing especially all those fucking grasping pensioners.
I would judge any country on how they treat the most vunerable citizens and in that case Australia's treatment of the Indigenous and the disabled is scandalous;Australia is great if you're doing alright but when the inevitable downturn comes(twenty yearsof growth,is probably unsustainable),let's see.

English and Proud!

Eloquently put, and so true.

This country is beautiful, isn't half as bad as some think, and provides opportunities for anyone with ambition.

As for ex-pats, well, too much in the garden is rosy.

They will never tell you it's been raining.
