I'm only asking in here as it seems to be the closest thread to relevancy without starting a new one. Does anyone know the score about being asked for references before an offer is made, but after an interview? I've never had this happen before and I've interviewed for something new that would be a role I'd really like and would represent a complete career change. Thank you

Depends on the role.
In teaching, references are usually asked for before interview and always before an offer is made.
If the role has any sort of safeguarding requirements then it would always be before offer.

Not really. Never lived outside of the UK and only been outside of Europe once for Florida.
