Gone for the toys? Just when I thought these matchups are getting absurd..
In fairness no research is needed to vote on this thread, you listen to 2 songs and decide which you prefer if any.As is always the case Fog does his research with unbiased aplomb , he is absolutely spot on they are legends in a country that has produced the likes of ACDC , The Easybeats , The Seekers ( yes not everyone's cup of tea but Bruce Woodley is rated by the likes of Paul Simon that he wrote with as one of the best he has known ) and the list goes on so much so that he has voted this song on its merits above a San Fran based band albeit Linda was East coast born and bred. I often had little spare money assisting my better half raise two kids one of whom needed constant medical attention around the time The Go- Betweens released this classic but I would watch them live when I could and they put on a great show.
Grant had a lot left in him when he died suddenly and the Go-Betweens 17 years together over two times periods was no longer.
I totally agree with Fog regarding their catalogue and many of my friends have their whole catalogue and IMO only two I would not play again. McLennan and Forster are both excellent song writers and I own Watershed and Fireboy and encourage anybody to listen to McLennan's solo work I don't think you will disappointed if you do.
Some of their pieces I and a lot of others rate as some of the best music written put to words in Australia's rich musical history since the late 50's.
For the uninitiated perhaps start with Cattle and cane and go from there if it appeals.
As Fog said well done to the poster who chose it , it probably won't go deep into the Cup but it certainly deserves it place.
Someone's pulling off ur tadgers with Keane surely!?! :-)I wonder who nominated this Keane track because apart from me, it has no other votes!
