The Spin Doctors were flogged on radio over here when this came out and I turn the channel when its played now.

Spot on regarding Manzarek.

JD's name from my experience doesn't come up often when drummers are the topic of conversation but I just love the fusion of jazz into rock and he was one of the best at it IMO.

You are entirely correct. Very underrated.

He's in my top 3 along with Tom Waites and Jackson Browne.
Most of my friends don't like him either.
I grew up preferring Roy Wood over Jeff Lynne and Peter Gabriel over Phil Collins so that may explain a lot.

Unsurprisingly I am with you on this artist as well , one of the most overrated of those with a massive fan base IMO.

One or two songs he wrote and sung I would listen to again but I don't have a single song of his on my playlist and I doubt I ever will.

I bear him no ill will nor find him overrated — I just can’t understand him at all. His music is so incredibly generic and hookless. I can think of maybe 20 songs of his and there isn’t a single one I like at all. It’s more strange than anything else. Bizarre.
