I actually think a number of Nordic metal bands get a bum wrap.I did not nominate Clawfinger but I voted against Pearl Jam almost on principle. The song is okay, but how these guys — well-meaning as they might be — managed to parlay one reasonably good half of a record into an entire career has never been quite clear to me. Always thought they were overrated, kind of like The Doors of the 90s, or the Billy Joel of grunge. First ballot RnR HoFers, really? In a Mexican standoff with Nirvana and Soundgarden they are Lee Van Cleef every time.
I was a closet fan Children of Bodom fan for some time before they started to gain chart success in the USA with Bloodfunk.
If I had to chose a few in this this part of the thread I would have chosen one from Rammstein for sure.
Just me of of course and most likely in the minority but I never understood why Metallica's black album was considered their jewel in the crown when compared to their earlier albums.
Clawfinger have produced some a grade music IMO some excellent melodic aggression and while this is not at the zenith the PJ track is much closer to their nadir.
I for once have to disagree with you Fog I think this song of Pearl Jam stinks albeit some of their material is fine by me but not at the head of grunge.
If we had a runoff of Abba v Roxette how would it go and who would really care but hopefully you get my point.
The spaghetti western analogy you refer to is a good one I really think Pearl Jam are overrated as is Billy Joel and while I won't be around to find out I suspect the time capsules will have little of their offerings.
