Was it that groundbreaking, most of the prog bands I spent the early 70s avoiding were making weird moog synth noises.

Noodling around in a cape doesn't count as making the best use of a Moog :-)

These are both fantastic songs, but at no point has Don't Fear The Reaper made me even remotely keen on the idea of shagging one of BOC, so on that utterly crass basis I'm going for Ms Summer.

Less crassly, Donna Summer was also a mind numbingly good singer. That song was done in one take and if you watch a live performance of it she is incredible, absolutely no post processing required.
