Kates voice matured and changed throughout her 40+ year and counting career. Whilst I can understand some of the adverse reaction to her vocal style early in her career as on this song, to write her off as a vocalist is mistaken. Her later work from Sensual World through Hounds of Love and especially Ariel features beautiful vocal performances. Acknowledgment of that nuance wouldn’t play as well to the gallery though. Live, she is in the top two or three vocalists I have ever seen.Come on, I love Midnight Oil but I am perfectly willing to accept that people might be put off by Peter Garrett's voice. Surely you can see the same with Kate Bush?
I'm not really playing to the gallery as most of them seem to be on your side :)Kates voice matured and changed throughout her 40+ year and counting career. I don't have an issue with her voice, here or later in her career. But "Wuthering Heights" is as inventive as a Barry Manilow song musically. Not to dis him, or her even, but it's pap.Kates voice matured and changed throughout her 40+ year and counting career. In your opinion of course. Many don’t hold the same. A song without chorus about a classic book written by an unknown eighteen year old is still critically acclaimed by many. Just be clear, what definition of pap are you applying to this song 1) soft food 2) worthless) 3) a woman’s breastI don't have an issue with her voice, here or later in her career. I still can't believe that she knocked out "Sweet Child O'Mine".
