The Bluemoon Song Cup 2023

Anyone who votes against the chaps that wrote our city song are traitors. 10cc all the way. :)

Keith Richards is a big blue, spent many a Saturday afternoon discussing big Dave Watson and open G tuning.

On that basis it's the stones for me.

Unlucky draw for 10cc

For all the genius studio trickery I think my favourite part of I'm Not In Love is the 'oh you wait a long time for me' bit at the end
Mind you what would Gimme Shelter be without the astonishing female voc climax?

Can't vote against Gimme Shelter.

I can't believe I'm doing this, but any band that sounds that good 36 years after the fact in that live performance, well, that just blew me away. 2:37 in and that bass, just great!

I've seen the Stones live, loved them, know most of their songs, still a fantastic live band, and Gimme Shelter is one of my favorites they've done.

Never been a big 10cc fan at all, don't have any of their albums, never seen them live, but I remember THAT SONG as a kid. When I checked out their original YouTube recording, I found this comment which has solidified my vote:

When this came out in the summer of 1975 people listened to their radios without headphones and I remember being at the beach and there were a hundred little radios all over the beach tuned to the same radio station, playing this song, so as you walked along you could hear it just slightly, all the while you walked, like one long continuous play on all those tiny radios. It was magical.

I simply cannot argue with that or put it any better. "I'm Not in Love", indeed!

This one's like choosing a favourite child.

Both have an ephemeral otherworldly feel,
one portentious, the other more spiritually emotional.

They also both have a certain uniqueness, and for me, also connect me to a more carefree time...

I instantly went with Stones and i can't let my Dartford boys down but that 10cc track has such a special aura about it.

Unbethrothed to 10cc nostalgia-wise as the rest of you lot, this was an easy call for The Stones, though “I’m Not In Love” was a staple on KFRC 610 AM in San Francisco in 76 when I started listening to pop music in earnest. A pleasant diversion for me but nothing more vs. the near-most powerful of RS tunes (still prefer “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking” though).
