The Boxing thread

The Haye weigh in is free of charge and it's at the Lowry centre 2pm, might go down myself and take the boy. Both fighters were at the game yesterday as my mate met them both. Still feel Harrison might get lucky but I fully expect Haye to be to fast and powerful.
I'm looking forward to it, who else is on the bill other than Groves?
I'm going down to the weigh in with a few mates, some of them don't even like boxing so that shows what a bit of Sky hype can do for the sport. Hopefully get to meet both, maybe Lennox as well who's meant to be there.

Apart from Groves the only other fight I know about on that card is Stuart Hall vs Gary Davies.

As for Pac/Margarito, Has anyone seen Marg's latest stunt?

Some things cross the line.

Haye - Harrison WBA Heavyweight Championship of the World

Audley Harrison

Age = 39

Height = 6'5½

Reach = 218cm

Record: wins = 27(20), losses = 4(1), draws = 0

Notable wins

Danny Williams (KO 3)
Michael Sprott (KO 12)
Prizefighter Heavyweights 2010 winner

Notable defeats

Danny Williams (SD)
Dominick Guinn (UD)
Michael Sprott (KO3)
Martin Rogan (PTS)

Strengths

Good power. Can remain dangerous late on. Will possess a size and reach advantage over Haye. Good jab. Fairly well conditioned for a heavyweight.

Weaknesses

Weak mental character. Reluctance to take the necessary risks required to control a fight. Can be outworked due to low punch output. Chance he could go into a shell as soon as he takes a hit. Still unsure of his ability to absorb a punch and still unsure of his ability to deal with a mobile opponent.

David Haye

Age = 30

Height = 6'3

Reach = 204cm

Record: wins = 24 (22), losses = 1(1), draws = 0

Notable Wins

Crusierweight

Alexander Gurov (KO - 45 seconds) - Gurov was the EBU Champion
Giacobbe Fragomeni (TKO 9) - Fragomeni later went on to become WBC Cruiserweight Champion
Jean Marc Mormeck (TKO 7) - Haye travelled to Paris to win the WBA and WBC Curiserweight titles. Mormeck was ranked #1 Cruiserweight in the world
Enzo Maccarinelli (TKO 2) - Haye adds Maccarinelli's WBO title to his WBA and WBC belts

Heavyweight

Monte Barrett (TKO 5) - Barrett down 5 times
Nikolay Valuev (MD)
John Ruiz (TKO 9) - Haye become first fighter to stop Ruiz since David Tua in 1996

Notable Defeats

Carl Thompson (TKO 5) - Haye's 10 professional fight.

Strengths

Excellent power. Good accuracy. Very good movement. Very good speed. Very confident.

Weaknesses

Stamina questions have been raised in the past. Probably the main reason he lost to Carl Thompson although that was 6 years ago. Questionable punch resistance. Heavily floored by natural Super Middlweight Lolenga Mock in 2003. Floored and seemingly hurt by Mormeck in round 4 of their title fight. He also keeps his hands fairly low which can be a dangerous tactic. Allows opponent to land unncessary jabs at times. Can be a little gungo-ho and prone to lunging in.

Common Opponent - Thomas Bronin

Haye W (TKO1)
Harrison W (TKO9)

Verdict: Personally for me, i think Haye can end this one whenever he wants. As soon as he lands anything of note, it will either knock Harrison out, or it will force Harrison into a shell. Of course, the danger is always there that Harrison could land that one punch, like he did on Michael Sprott. He could also pose a few problems if he decided to deploy his jab. However i can see Harrison struggling with Haye's lateral movement and i think Haye can end this realtively early, probably with a left jab, right cross combination. The very same combination he flattened Alexander Gurov with. Haye by KO for me, inside 5 rounds.

The George Groves fight on the undercard looks good against Kenny Anderson. 2 undefeated fighters with a total of 22 fights between them with 16 KOs 8 each it has the makings of a good under card fight. I think Groves will win it BUT it will be his hardest test yet.

That's awful I reckon Manny will destroy him. Connor do you think the weigh in will be child friendly? i.e will it be suitable if I take my two and half year old son.
Can't see you having too many problems mate, unless they start brawling Tyson/Lennox style!

Haye just said on SSN first 1000 will get in, so I'll probably get down there early just incase.

-- 11 Nov 2010, 14:41 --

What happened to Groves fighting a couple of weeks ago anyway? Did he get injured or summat?

His opponent James Toney (not the real one, haha) had an eye problem. They offered the fight to Prizefighter winner Patrick Mendy, but he declined, as he would have had only 2 days to prepare.

Groves should beat Anderson fairly easily. Late stoppage i think.

Cheers Conor I will get down about 12 with my son. I will have my grey city hoodie so come over and say hi.(my real name is Mark) looking forward to the Groves fight.
Going to put a bet on a Haye K/O round 3.
Alright mate, if I see you there I'll say hello.

Ono do you know if they've found a replacement for Pavlik on the Pacquiao undercard?

Margarito is a cnut. Cheating bastard!

Pacman will win it easily, and as for Haye and Harrison, Haye shouldnt have any trouble i mean if he cant beat Harrison then he doesnt deserve to be the champ

When people used to say Tony was `heavy handed` I bet they didn`t realise how close to the truth they really were, anyway, out of order taking the p1ss like that, cheeky f*ckers.
