The Boxing thread

Lots of people said Fury would find an excuse to duck this fight and looks like they were proved right. If he isnt fit to fight in May then he should be stripped of his belt and Usyk should fight the number two contender.

I don't know why all the modern heavyweights want to dodge each other, yes there is loads of money to be picked up by fighting bums, but that only brings in questions about your skills and chin. If I were a world-class boxer I would want to fight anybody who is a challenge stopping me from getting all the belts, Once you are the best then the Big money would roll in and then you have earned the right.

It's so much promoters' greed and they treat their boxers like Tarts and pimp them out every 3 to 6 months
Tyson is no better now, but at least he used to take the big fights, Now he's ducking and diving into becoming a celebrity ex-boxer and taking show fights with UFC fighters or going into WWE.

I have to question Tyson's desire right now, Does he still want it bad enough or is the light at the end of the tunnel bright enough now for him to step away and stay unbeaten

He wouldn't fight David Price when Price looked dangerous, he gave up his belts when it went to purse bids. That was almost 12 years ago.

Fury wants to fight big names when they are 38.

Cannot fucking stand Fury, dodging this fight on Feb 17th because he knows he’ll get battered by Usyk.

Hope the fight happens in May now but who knows with Fury the coward.
How can a man who steps in the ring to fight 18 stone men and has beaten all of them up be a coward in your eyes please explain ? He’d drag you about like a baby with one hand I despair keyboard warriors talking about fighting men in the comfort of there household grow up .

Peak Tyson beats peak Lewis IMHO.
I have to disagree.
Although I respect your opinion mate.
Lennox for me is the greatest of his generation.
Never dodged anyone.
Redeemed every loss or draw ( it wasn't a draw against evander he won hands down)

Tyson always knew even when he became the youngest heavyweight champion that lennox would always have his number.

From their time as kids in catskills sparring he knew.

Don't get me wrong I love tyson but Lewis for me was just too good for tyson , even peak tyson.

The mike Tyson trained by Kevin Rooney would have bullied Lennox Lewis from the first bell and I don’t think Lewis would have lived with him and the same goes to Holyfield aswell . When Tyson went with jay bright I think then chinks started to show and buster took advantage and ironed him out but the old Mike Tyson will go down as one of the greats .

But i think lewis would never get bullied by tyson.
Too clever too good.
Every fighter not matter how good they are had that 1 nemesis.. ( bit like us with tottingham)haha..
Imho Lewis was phenomenal.

I went to New York and saw the draw against Holyfield. What a trip and what an experience.
Two all time greats duking it out at “The Garden”.
Tyson will, rightly or wrongly, always be my favourite boxer though.
That said, for all time favourite fights / results, Honeyghan beating Curry tops the lot.

Great stuff mate.

Of all the fights I've been involved in for the past 30 odd years, from western boxing to Thai, to bjj ect .. to what I watched as a fan , my favourite of all time is whole gatti/ward trilogy.
Favourite mma fight..?
Griffin v Bonnar.
Not for skill , just for shear heart and determination from both fighters..

Neary v Ward - I think this demonstrated the difference between a top top boxer (Neary) and a Hall of Famer (Ward).
The step up from the high steps to the highest steps is fraught with fistic danger.

That was some night mate, sounds like we may have had a similar view of the outcome of that fight, one of the few who had Lloyd down to win it, despite Curry being widely considered the best ‘pound for pound’ fighter around by some distance, had so many people say I was taking shit lol (much like when Naz was starting to make a name for himself, and I said Barrera will school him in any future fight).

But I’d had the privilege of watching Lloyd from very early on in his career, I still maintain, him going for the title (and those first couple of defences) he is one of the very best fighters this country has ever produced, Lloyds problem was always going to be maintaining that desire once he was champion.

“The bell went ding and I went dong!”
Bumphus was no mug so I guess “by any means necessary”.

"If he ( holyfield) ever goes heavy..we're in trouble"

Kevin Rooney

Revisionist thinking that douglas took advantage...nowt wrong with tyson when he landed his best uppercut...truth is he was never really that good..still moved back in a straight line, every boxer puncher that wasnt feared of the intro music beat him...holy at 14' 7

Say one thing about the gypo...he gets in the ring for a read and write...he doesnt cur-out when another bar goes on the fire.

Tyson wasn’t really ever that good is just silly imo ,
He was probably the most naturally gifted heavyweight after Ali, for a man that size to have his speed, power and movement/agility is basically a freak of nature
He had every shot in the book and threw them all with the speed and power I’ve never seen from a heavyweight before or since

Tyson was already taking a big beating from Douglas when he managed to land that uppercut

With his natural ability it’s a fair comment to say if kept on track and managed and trained properly he at his best could’ve beat any heavyweight in history
I’m not saying I think he is the greatest ever but he was absolutely awesome in his peak

He moved backwards in a straight line mate...and fought matchpower full stop..douglas fucked him with the olde kirkland laing lead leg slap everytime he was getting set ( reading his own steps like a game of hop scotch)...

Ali told everyone what round ( by the 10th hes ready) youd plant your feet to matador him ...18 month before douglas did exactly that.

"If he ever goes heavy we're in trouble"...bum bum

( pre king, pre givens, pre nick, pre jacobs/cus going dead, pre killing your kids)
