The Boxing thread

Need a quick nap before the Martinez fight. I hope the Antonio De Marco fight is being shown on Sky his fight with Linares was incredible.

Too easy for Brook tonight. I guess a certain Frank Warren will be pissed off that Brook left him for Matchroom. A upcoming world title fight by the end of the year if he wins the World title it opens up the door to bigger and better fights in the division. Speical Kell is going to be a great fighter to watch in the coming years.

If you're not watching the Martinez/Macklin fight you might want to, it's getting good.

I do think that having McGirt in his corner will end up costing Macklin though.

Not enough stamina, Martinez certainly doesn't tire like a 37 year old should.
yeah thought macklin might have an outside chance when he got that "knockdown" but martinez absolutely battered him after that. world class boxer

A brave journey man at best, hopefully Hatton will now realise his ambitions have never come close to matching his limited capabilities and he will hang up his gloves.

Can see both fights quite similar with Brook and Martinez winning on points against two pretty durable opponents, but either will do well to force a late stoppage in my opinion.

Frampton ? A comfortable win, not seen anything of Ankrah, looking at his record on face value it looks good, but look more deeply and it looks well padded out with plenty of fighters on big losing streaks, very inexperienced or a combination of both, really can't see him having too much trouble with this one at all.
I'd take any of the fuckers.

yeah yeah, we all know your dog bangs you out twice a week at least.

That just sounds so wrong lol.

As I saw it, Brook was excellent last night, very composed fighter and will go onto great things I'm sure, but Hatton had him exposed a number of times simply by stepping inside that straight left right using a high guard, left him completely off balance and open to a few good hooks, Hatton didn't have the quality or composure to make the most of it, the company he will be going in with from now on will make him pay, especially right at the very top.

Frampton, quality little fighter and don't know whether he had no choice to take that fight (Leighton ?) but he needs to start moving forward, he's way beyond that level.

Macklin, just unlucky in the end I guess, was always going to be chasing the fight at that stage, had to go for it and got tagged, brave lad it has to be said though.

Harry regarding Frampton it was a keep busy fight. The kid has been calling out Munroe and Quigg since the end of last year and Quigg last summer the kid is a speical talent. His second fight this year a keep busy fight. Quigg has been offered a lot of chances to fight Frampton but it seems Joe Gallagher and Ricky Hatton doesnt want Quigg fighting Frampton. He will more than likely fight Kiko next if Quigg and Munroe are fighting each other. He has the power theres no doubting it and the gym he is in is great for him. He spars a lot of rounds for years they have got him good sparing when he started out he helped Scott Booth in the build up to his World title and he was holding his own with him back then. He often trains with the Irish am fighters in Olympic Bronze medal winner Paddy Barnes in his gym he gets some great sparing from a quicker boxer with brilliant boxing skills. If he qualifies for London he has a medal chance and expect him to turn pro after London as well.

As for Macklin it was a good fight and close fight until Macklin got the knock down on Martinez. After that the switch was turned on by Martinez and he exploded. It wasnt a bad preformace he was fighting the best Middleweight on the planet and done ok. Can he win a World title? I will be interested to see who he fights on his return to the ring. Needs to fight a top 10 fighter and then look at another shot of a World title against maybe Daniel Geale or Felix Sturm and against those 2 he will have a chance to win a World title in my view. I think Marthinez will fight the WBO champion next in Pirog. Think if Macklin stays in the US if Andy Lee doesnt get a fight against Chavez jnr then the 2 could well fight each other in a all Irish fight it could be done anywhere in the US wouldnt mind if it was to be in Ireland but those days are long gone now. Or he could end up fighting Barker or Murray in the UK but with his deal with DiBella those fights dont look like they are going to happen as they are unknown in the US compared with Lee.
