The Boxing thread

I agree, mate. It looks odd on someone like Wilder having a great upper body, and those legs. My missus commented tonight on Wilder's legs. It does stand out.
You’d have thought that “you punch from your feet” meaning you get as much weight and momentum behind each punch.

Obviously that’s more about hip and shoulder movement, but a solid front leg quad and back leg calf would help that balance and weight momentum forwards.

Or it seems to me anyway as a total amateur simply thinking about dynamic forces.

I agree. But the problem with Wilder is, he can't box. It's all very off-balance and wild. He doesn't use his jab much and can't throw combinations. He reminds me of Liverpool. Powerful, can be effective, but mostly quite fucking awful to watch.

They probably know far more about the science and biology needed to excel in their fields, but it doesn’t half look weird.
His (high) calves are a genetic trait that quite a few black men have, it’s unfortunate from an aesthetics point, and short of implants, very little they can do about it, but, they generally tend to make very good endurance athletes.

You’re right though, it does look weird, weirdest though though was back in the 70s/80s, there was a guy called Tony Pearson, brilliant physique from the knees up, but had high calves similar to Wilder, eventually he had to have implants done, almost impossible to put any size on the calves unless you have reasonable genetics.IMG_3862.jpeg

Watched the highlights this morning best Joshu looked in ages but let's not go over the top till he wins his next fight that imperious..

Absolutely flabbergasted by everybody thinking the Parker result was a shock. A lot of so called experts and ex-boxers too. Wilder's not beaten anybody of note and has one of those most padded records going. A 40 odd year old Ortiz won every round in two fights against him until the stoppages. He has ridiculous power admittedly, but it's only ever delivered by one punch. An overhand right. No hooks, uppercuts or combinations to worry about. Avoid the overhand right and you win the fight. I think anybody genuinely in the top 10 beats him.

Last night didn't do anything for Tyson's legacy either. Parker winning by a shut out against the fighter that really catapulted him to celebrity status and that his whole legacy along with the Vlad fight is hinged on. Then there was AJ making really light work of Wallin that caused Tyson issues.

Nobody calling Zhang out and the pundits rarely mentioning him too. Everybody knows it's too much risk for little reward and I suspect they don't want a Chinese champion.

I won £100 on Parker beating Wilder.
Boxing is partly a confidence sport and Andy Lee as done a super job with Parker recently.
There was no fear coming from Parker before or during the fight.

What odds was he out of interest? By about round 4 I was kicking myself that I hadn't put anything on. Been telling my cousin since it was announced that I fancied Parker and he'd probably win every round.

I like Joe and sometimes see him on Morecambe promenade so I do have a soft spot for him. Andy Lee always comes across well and knowledgeable when he's interviewed or on comms too. He may have improved under Andy, but I'm not convinced by the opposition he's faced and that includes Wilder. Took two fights to really rubber stamp a victory over Chisora and was dismantled by Joyce. Can't see him winning a title again, but there's some decent fights there for him. Maybe stick him in with Dubois next.
