The Boxing thread

Agree with above, but for one error. Hate was never the undisputed champion as often claimed. It is a mistruth, the truth is there was a certain Steve Cunningham he never fought who iirc was the IBF champion.
The same Cunningham that Fury sparked out in 7 rounds? They both made the step up to heavy but Haye showed he had the skill and the power to make it at that weight, overall nowhere near as good (slick, fast or skillful however you want to put it) and not as strong as Haye for me.

Just seen what Bellew mouthed off about him and Price "bouncing" Haye all over the ring in sparring... him and Price share the "deluded scouser" gene for sure(can't believe he called Frank Warren "fish eyes" on live on Sky... idiot lol). The only reason I think he's said that is because he's seen how much Haye has bulked up with his sights firmly on the HW division(at his age he's not going to shed all that weight for one fight) and Bellew has no intention of going up to HW, ... I really hope he does though because I can only see the biggest pasting Bellew's received in is life happening if that fight gets made.

Lol it's the same with Liverpool fans building up their players after a couple of good games, there must be high levels hype in the water over there, remember when we bought Sterling and they said "Jordan Ibe is better anyway" surprised they've shut up about him, he not been in the squad or something?

I know there's a lot of hate for Haye these days after the no show in Germany but as for the rest of it, seems like casuals jumping on the bandwagon and then calling other people casuals. He's not the first fighter to have warm up fights after long stretches out due injury and what not, he's not the first fighter to hype up shit fights they know are just a warm up for them... it's just that it actually works very well for him they would all love make as much as he does for those kind of fights(try as they might). Also many of the contenders such as Parker, Joshua etc don't want any of Haye I don't even think Wilder would agree to a matchup(he has to face one of the English heavies sooner or later... Haye, Fury, Joshua I'd favor any of those over him personally but his best chance is while Joshua is relatively green).

They've just decided that pro's can fight in the Olympics and there is a qualifying event next month in Venezuela. Absolute madness.

Its sad to see that Professional Boxers will be aloud to fight the ams in the Olympics. A bad move. I hope that any former World champions dont go down this route and ideally for me they would just miss it. Feel sorry for some of the am guys who will get paired with a pro but also looking at it and wondering how the top ams will do against the pros that do go.

Also the summer has a few good fights to look forward to.
George Groves v Martin Murray
The American card on Sky later that night with Keith Thurman v Shawn Porter and Jesus Cuellar v Abner Mares.
The circus fight of Fury v Klitschko
Terence Crawford v Victor Postol
Carl Frampton v Leo Santa Cruz

Saunders saying he'd "school" Alvarez... lol I don't mind him but I think he's overestimating his own level just as much as he's underestimating Canelo's. Good matchup though maybe they are in talks? Certainly sounds like he's trying to convince himself he has more heart there.

He likes saying 'listen' a lot

Any good pro will stay away, and the journey men won't have the money to qualify and compete in Rio at the drop of a hat for vanity. It will only be ones with national backing that have a chance, and if someone has already qualified in their weight category it is a closed door with only 1 person allowed from each country, It will be Tokyo before the is any real impact.

The sanctioning bodies will see it as competition, when really it is just a prolonged edition of Prizefighter,

He sure does love when we listen. A lot of sports people talk like that they should conduct a survey for the most used terms out of: "Listen", "At the end of the day", "Errrm" and the new "Lets go champ" phrase.

i thought it was more of a dom thing opposed to solely sports people chat..furys father's keen on the word..i can't imagine putting up with that line of chat unless there was a lot of money in it, though listening to the interviewer i'd wager he'd happily take a pay cut if his name still gets banded about youtube.

The new line from Josh was a billy belter 'and lets all get behind boxing' .....bit cheesy straight after someone's drinked-you-up with the hw title...must be getting very baseline when even tyson the gypo is openly calling it a load of bollox......'and lets all get behind boxing'...ffs.

Was i right in seeing somewhere a certain Amir Khan wants to do it for Pakistan go to Rio its high profile fighters like him that they dont need to go to Rio. Thats fucking crazy to see Khan at Rio fighting. He be a laughing stock in the pro ranks.

He has already fought for GB as well. Some of the previous GB Olympic boxers aren't happy that he is considering this.
I dont blame them. I seen what Carl Frampton said about it.
He thinks its a bad idea. Compared it to Tennis and Badmington 2 totally different sports. He has also claimed that " I think too much has been made of the "safety" issue for amateurs if pros boxed in the Olympics. Bigger, softer gloves. Less ring time and The fact that olympic standard amateurs are world class means safety isn't really an issue. Top amateurs would be in the driving seat Against most pros but to say all top amateurs wipe out all top pros is a silly argument. Pretty sure fighters like Khan, Pacquiao, Rigo,Lomachenko, Ward and Golovkin would all fancy their chances against any top amateur in the Word. But I say leave it as it is. 2 diff games"
I know that with Frampton and his training camps he always has some am guys about to help with sparring be it Paddy Barnes or Michael Conlan and the sparing sessions do be great to watch at times. I think Carl Froch was training with some Team GB boxers in some of his training camps with Rob McCracken in the build up to some of his World title fights.

Boxnation now.

Liam Smith v Predrag Radosevic
Paul Butler v Petch Kokietgym
Ryan Farrar v Karim Guerfi
Jazza Dickens v Abigail Medina
Zolani Tete v Victor Ruiz

Smith is due out about 9:30 - 10pm. I was expecting Paul Butler to go all the way, that was until Tete outclassed him in every department.

Francisco Vargas fights Orlando Salido later on HBO.
