The Boxing thread

First fight against a boxer who, although one of the greats of the sport, is 40 years old, well past his prime, and wouldn't stand a chance against fighters currently at the top of their game.

I hardly watch either sport, but I thought mayweather should have battered him considering mcgregor has no experience at this level of boxing. A boxer with that record should be taking a newcomer to the cleaners. Age is no excuse.

I think McGregor underestimated Mayweather and thought he could do what Hatton couldn't. But there's a reason Mayweather is a boxing legend. I just wish McGregor would've kicked him in the head at some point.

When has Mayweather ever been know as a KO merchant? Never, that's when.

And he did take him to the cleaners. He let McGregor unload on him early on, knowing that he couldn't hurt him, then just picked him apart as he tired.

I doubt an early round KO would have gone down well with the pay per view masters and Casino owners either!

I was still expecting more for apparently one of the greatests of all time. Never been keen on this weight division, prefer watching heavyweights knocking the shit out of each other.

Indeed. I honestly think that Mayweather could have finished it whenever he wanted to. Never has been his style to do so though and certainly wasn't in this 'fight'.

And McGregor said he was gonna knock him out in 2 rounds but didn't even hurt him. 29 year old in his prime can't knock down a 40 year old who hasn't had a scrap in 2 years.

Haha mayweather has never been knocked down, his glove touched the canvas in 2001 after he slipped which was counted as a knockdown.

He is the best defensive boxer to ever step inside the ring. Only fighter going today who could break through it is Lomachenko and he's a lot smaller so probably couldnt hurt him anyway.

People go 2 years without a fight when they're not retired it's not that long.

"Could have" but he didn't

Did you really buy into Floyd saying he'll go looking for an early KO? He would have said anything to sell the fight. He did all he needed to win and all he cared about is 50-0. It doesn't look any different if he won in the first or by UD.

He's 50-0 for a reason

1 round up..Yeah battered him mate

Four, seven and eight rounds...

Huh?

I know he's 50-0 for a reason..He's an amateur style points boxer with the best defence ever, sprinkled with a very high fight IQ. Mcgregor only ever had a punchers chance and only had that punchers chance in the first few rounds. Those round came and went and the writing was on the wall. Just should give props to an amateur boxer going 10 rounds with one of the goats

Let's put the fight in to perspective...

A brand new fighter to boxing & fighting Queensbury rules, has just gone 10 rounds with arguably the best fighter to put on a pair of gloves. McGregor may not of won but he's now set for life & ANY fight going forward be it MMA or boxing will see him net a fortune & rightly so.

McGregor had nothing to lose, absolutely zero to worry about. He's lost before & will lose again, he's just done 10 rounds though & nobody thought he'd last that! He was given the opportunity & thought Fuck why not & huge kudos for him doing it.

Stamina was a huge factor tonight but he'd not make that mistake again, he didn't prepare right in my opinion & took it for granted. For me he had too much to do in a short amount of time. The weight was sapping & an issue & his instincts are UFC. You'll see him again box without a doubt but it'll be very different.

I'll say it again though... A new fighter in his first ever boxing match has just gone 10 rounds with the undisputed, undefeated, legend of boxing Mayweather! He's nothing to be ashamed of & has just sent his stock soaring.

"He who laughs last... Laughs loudest"

"A new fighter in his first ever boxing match has just gone 10 rounds with a 40 year old, retired boxer who is past his peak" would be more accurate.

Why is that relevant..you don't forget how to box...YOU could train for a year walk up to Mike Tyson to offer him out and he'd square you away within a minute
